CV Format for Bangladesh: Standard BD CV Samples and Free Templates

A standard Bangladeshi CV runs two to three pages, opens with a Personal Details block, lists all four public exams with GPA out of 5.00 for SSC and HSC and CGPA out of 4.00 for university, and closes with a declaration and signature. Qarera's free BD templates parse cleanly through Workday, SuccessFactors, Greenhouse and Lever, and through the bdjobs.com parser. NID-aware, Class Division ready, NGO and RMG fluent.

The short answer

The standard CV format in Bangladesh is a two-page, single-column document in this order: contact details, Personal Details, career objective, educational qualifications, employment history, training and certifications, computer skills, language proficiency, referees, and a declaration with signature. A 2 page CV format in Bangladesh is the norm; three pages is accepted for senior roles and government applications, and one page only in the IT, fintech and MNC segment.

You will see the same document called a CV format BD, a Bangla CV format, a Bangladeshi CV format, a BD CV template, or simply a bio-data - they all describe this format. One thing worth clearing up: "Bangla CV" refers to the Bangladeshi convention, not to a CV written in Bengali. A job CV for Bangladesh is written in English unless a government circular specifically prescribes otherwise.

Bangladesh CV formats by sector

Each is a two-to-three-page CV template for Bangladesh. Pick by sector - graduate and MTO, NGO and development, RMG, bank, government, or IT and startup - because the job CV format in Bangladesh genuinely differs between them.

Fresh Graduate / MTO (Bangladesh)

Best for: DU, BUET, IBA, NSU, BRAC University, AIUB, CUET, SUST and National University graduates; management trainee and Global Graduate applicants

Structure: Contact → Career Objective → Educational Qualifications (with CGPA and Class) → Internship / Project → Extra-Curricular Activities → Training → Computer Skills → Language → References

The MTO route - Unilever Future Leaders, BAT Global Graduate, Grameenphone Next Business Leader - is the most competitive graduate hiring in Bangladesh. These programmes screen on institution, Class Division and CGPA before a human reads a word, so education goes above experience and the Class ("1st Class") is stated in words alongside the number. Extra-curriculars carry real weight here: BUCC, BIZBEE, IBA case competitions and club leadership are screened, not decoration.

NGO & Development Sector (BD)

Best for: BRAC, Grameen, ASA, Save the Children, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, IOM, BRAC Maitree, Plan International, Practical Action

Structure: Contact → Personal Details → Career Objective → Educational Qualifications → Employment History (with donor, project, beneficiary numbers) → Training → Field Experience → Language → Referees

Bangladesh has one of the largest NGO sectors in the world and it hires on a distinct vocabulary: donor name (DFID / FCDO, USAID, GIZ, EU, World Bank), project cycle, log-frame, beneficiary reach, upazila and district coverage, and M&E experience. BRAC asks external candidates for a letter of interest stating educational grades, years of experience, and current and expected salary - prepare those as a separate line, not buried in the CV.

RMG, Textile & Merchandising

Best for: Merchandisers, IE, planning, QA / QC, compliance, washing and finishing roles across knit and woven composites

Structure: Contact → Personal Details → Career Objective → Employment History (with buyer, product, order value) → Educational Qualifications → Training (compliance / audit) → Computer Skills → References

RMG is Bangladesh's largest export industry and its CVs read differently from every other sector. Recruiters screen on buyer accounts handled (H&M, Zara / Inditex, Primark, M&S, Walmart, C&A, Decathlon), product category (knit / woven / denim / sweater / outerwear), monthly order volume in pieces and FOB value, and compliance audit exposure (Accord / RSC, BSCI, Sedex SMETA, WRAP, Higg). Name the buyers - a merchandiser CV without buyer names loses immediately.

Bank & NBFI (Bangladesh)

Best for: Probationary officers, MTOs and mid-career roles at BRAC Bank, City Bank, Eastern Bank, Dutch-Bangla, Prime, IDLC, IPDC, LankaBangla and bKash / Nagad

Structure: Contact → Personal Details → Career Objective → Educational Qualifications → Employment History → Professional Qualifications (CA / CC, ACCA, CFA, BIBM) → Training → Computer Skills → References

Bank hiring in Bangladesh runs written-exam-first, and the CV is the gate to sitting it. Recruiters screen on institution tier, Class Division across all four exams (SSC, HSC, graduation, post-graduation), and professional progress - CA Course Complete (CC), ACCA papers, CFA level, or BIBM diploma. No third division at any level is a genuine hard filter at several banks; state your results plainly rather than omitting them.

Government & Semi-Government

Best for: BCS cadre and non-cadre applicants, government project posts, autonomous bodies, corporations and semi-government organisations

Structure: Contact → Personal Details (full block) → Educational Qualifications (all four exams with board, roll, year) → Employment History → Training → Extra-Curricular → Declaration → Signature

Government and semi-government applications still expect the fullest version of the Bangladeshi CV: complete personal details, all four public-exam results with board and passing year, quota or freedom-fighter status where applicable, and a signed declaration at the end. Do not modernise this one. Follow the circular exactly - many posts require the CV to mirror the prescribed application form.

IT, Startup & MNC (BD)

Best for: Software engineers, data, product and ops roles at bKash, Nagad, Pathao, Shohoz, Chaldal, ShopUp, Therap BD, Brain Station 23, Kaz Software, Enosis, Samsung R&D BD

Structure: Contact → Professional Summary → Technical Skills → Employment History → Projects → Educational Qualifications → Certifications → GitHub / Portfolio

This is the one Bangladeshi segment that has moved to the Western resume: no personal details, no photo, no declaration, summary instead of career objective, and skills stated up front for keyword matching. Therap BD, Samsung R&D Bangladesh, and the fintechs run Workday, Greenhouse and Lever. Keep it single-column and table-free, and lead with the stack.

Personal details: what to include, and what to leave off

This block is the biggest single difference between a Bangladeshi CV and a Western resume, and the advice on international resume sites is wrong for Bangladesh. Here is the field-by-field position.

Father's Name and Mother's Name

Expected on almost every Bangladeshi CV outside the tech and MNC segment, and effectively mandatory for government, semi-government and most traditional employers. Leaving the block out reads as an incomplete CV rather than as a modern one.

Date of Birth

Standard, and genuinely load-bearing: government circulars and MTO programmes carry hard age ceilings, so recruiters check it against eligibility before anything else. Write it as "12 March 1996" rather than a numeric format to avoid DD/MM versus MM/DD ambiguity.

NID number

Include it for government, semi-government, bank and large-institution applications, where it is commonly required. Leave it off public job-board profiles and CVs you email to unknown recipients - it is a national identifier and does not belong on a document you scatter widely. Bring it to the appointment stage instead.

Present Address and Permanent Address

Both are expected. The permanent address is written in the village / P.O. / district form and is not a formality - employers hiring for field, sales and NGO roles read it as an indicator of regional language and local familiarity for territory postings.

Passport-size photo

Expected across government, banks, RMG and traditional corporates; commonly dropped at the fintechs, IT firms and MNC graduate programmes. Where required, use a plain-background formal photo. When the circular is silent, including it is the safer default in Bangladesh.

Marital Status

Conventional and low-risk to include; increasingly omitted in the MNC and startup segment. It is one of the first fields to drop if you need the space.

Religion, blood group, height and weight

Blood group is a common local convention and harmless where the employer expects the full block. Religion, height and weight belong only on prescribed government forms that explicitly ask for them - carrying them onto a private-sector CV adds no signal and dates the document.

Writing tips for Bangladeshi CVs

Six things that separate a professional CV format BD recruiters shortlist from the standard CV format BD everyone else sends. CV writing in Bangladesh rewards specificity far more than design.

State Class Division in words, not just the number

Unilever Bangladesh, British American Tobacco Bangladesh and Grameenphone application forms ask you to declare Class Division from a dropdown rather than type your exact CGPA, and several banks apply a hard filter on divisions across all four public exams. Write "1st Class" next to "CGPA 3.62 out of 4.00" so both the human and the form-filling step have what they need. Always name the scale - GPA out of 5.00 for SSC and HSC, CGPA out of 4.00 for university - because the two are routinely confused.

Name the buyers for RMG, the donors for NGO roles

These two sectors employ an enormous share of Bangladesh's white-collar workforce and both screen on specific proper nouns. For merchandising: buyer accounts (H&M, Inditex / Zara, Primark, M&S, Walmart, C&A, Decathlon), product category (knit / woven / denim / sweater), monthly volume in pieces, FOB value, and audit exposure (Accord / RSC, BSCI, Sedex SMETA, WRAP, Higg). For development: donor (FCDO, USAID, GIZ, EU, World Bank), project name and cycle, beneficiary reach, upazila and district coverage, and M&E tools. A CV without these names loses to one that has them, regardless of the underlying experience.

Prepare current and expected salary as a separate line

BRAC asks external candidates to state educational grades, years of experience, and current and expected salary in the letter of interest, and this is common across the NGO sector and many bdjobs.com listings. Keep those four facts ready as a short block you can paste into a covering email rather than trying to work them into the CV body, where they read awkwardly and date the document the moment your salary changes.

Quantify in BDT and give scale a reference point

Use ৳ or BDT explicitly and add the unit - lakh and crore are standard in Bangladesh but are not understood by international recruiters, so write "BDT 2.4 crore (approx. USD 200,000)" when the CV may travel abroad. Territory size in outlets, order volume in pieces, beneficiary numbers, headcount managed and portfolio value are the metrics that actually differentiate; "responsible for sales" without a number is the most common weakness in Bangladeshi CVs.

Match the segment, not the job title

Bangladesh runs two live CV conventions at once. Government, banks, RMG, semi-government and traditional corporates expect the full format: personal details, photo, all four exams, declaration and signature. The fintechs, IT firms and MNC graduate programmes - bKash, Pathao, Therap BD, Samsung R&D Bangladesh, Unilever, BAT - have moved to the Western resume and the full block works against you there. Decide which document you are writing before you write it, and keep both versions.

Keep the CV single-column and table-free

Around three quarters of large and multinational employers operating in Bangladesh screen through an ATS before a recruiter reads anything, and tables, columns and text boxes are the formatting choices that most often cause a parser to drop content silently. A two-column "modern" CV template can lose your entire employment history without any visible sign. Send DOCX when the employer asks for Word and PDF otherwise, and keep the personal-details block as plain label-and-value lines rather than a table.

Applying abroad from Bangladesh

If you are applying overseas, do not send the Bangladeshi format. Australia, Ireland, the UK, Canada and New Zealand actively discourage personal details and photos, and including them can count against you. The Gulf works the other way: nationality, visa status and a photo are expected. Switch to the destination format:
