Contact + LinkedIn. Name, phone, school email or personal email (use a professional one), city, LinkedIn. For new grad nurses, add license status (NCLEX-pending, scheduled for MM/YYYY, or recently passed) right under your name.
Professional Summary (3-4 lines). Degree and graduation date, the field you're entering, and one specific differentiator. Education. This is the most important section for a new grad. Degree, university, graduation date, GPA if 3.5+, honors, relevant coursework, capstone or thesis topic. For nurses: clinical rotation breakdown with hours and unit type. For engineers: capstone project with the stack and outcome.
Clinical Rotations or Projects. New grad nurses lead with rotations. Engineers and other freshers lead with substantive projects. List 3-5 with what you did, what you learned, and any quantified outcome.
Experience. Any paid or substantial unpaid work. Tutoring, retail, on-campus jobs, research assistantships, summer camps. Quantify where possible.

Common mistakes on new grad and fresher resumes
Objective statement at the top
"Seeking an entry-level position to apply my skills..." wastes the strongest part of the resume. Replace with a one-line professional summary that names your degree, field, and one differentiator.
Two pages with thin content
New grad resumes should never run two pages. The discipline of one page forces the strongest content to the top. Two-page fresher resumes signal padding even when the content is honest.
Hiding the GPA
If GPA is 3.5+, list it. If 3.0-3.4, judgment call (list if relevant to the role). Below 3.0, omit and lean on projects, internships, and other signals. Burying GPA when it's strong is a missed opportunity.
No projects or rotations
Coursework alone proves you took classes. Projects (engineering), rotations (clinical), or substantive part-time work are what hiring managers screen for. One real project beats three lines of class names.
Generic skill lists
"Microsoft Office, communication, teamwork" are baseline assumptions. List role-specific tools (the EHR you used in clinical, the language and framework you shipped in for engineering) and replace soft skills with bullets that prove them.
Not addressing the no-experience question
If the resume reads as if it's hoping no one notices the gap, it reads weaker. Address the gap by leading with what you do bring (program, projects, certifications) and don't apologize.
