How to state your visa status

Goes in personal details at the top. UAE recruiters screen on visa status within seconds — Golden / Green / self-sponsored visas skip a major employer overhead.

UAE National (Emirati)

List nationality plainly. Eligible for Emiratization quota roles and federal/government posts with significant hiring preference. State Family Book / Khulasat Al Qaid if government-track.

Golden Visa (5 or 10 year)

For investors, exceptional talent, doctors, scientists, top professionals (salary AED 30k+), top students, humanitarian pioneers. Self-sponsored, transfers easily between employers. State as "Golden Visa (10-year) — self-sponsored".

Green Visa (5 year)

For skilled professionals (Bachelor's + monthly salary AED 15k+), freelancers, and investors. Self-sponsored, transfers between employers. State as "Green Visa (5-year) — self-sponsored, transferable".

Employment Visa (2-3 year, sponsor-tied)

Most common expat work visa. Tied to specific employer. State as "Employment Visa (current sponsor: [Employer])". Mention notice period — 30 days for limited contract, 60-90 for senior unlimited.

Freelance Permit / Freelance Visa

Issued via free zones (DMCC, RAKEZ, twofour54, in5). For independent professionals — designers, consultants, content creators. State as "Freelance Permit — [Free Zone] — transferable".

Visit Visa / On Visit

For job-search visits. Employer must sponsor full Employment Visa for actual hire. State plainly as "Visit Visa — exploring opportunities" if currently on visit; many employers prefer to sponsor from outside UAE.

Writing tips for UAE CVs

Lead with photo and personal details — UAE convention expects it

Passport-style photo top-right, then nationality, DOB, marital status, and visa status block. Emirates Group, ADNOC, Etisalat, Emaar, government — all expect this. The narrow exceptions are FAANG and Western multinational regional HQs in DIFC / ADGM, which sometimes follow Western no-photo conventions.

Declare visa status precisely — Golden / Green / Employment / Freelance

"Golden Visa (10-year, self-sponsored)" is a hiring signal — skips sponsorship overhead. "Green Visa (5-year, transferable)" likewise. Employment Visa with current sponsor named and notice period clears recruiter questions in seconds. Visit Visa — be honest, employers prefer to sponsor from outside the country in most cases.

For DHA / DOH / MOHAP roles, lead with the licence number

DHA (Dubai), DOH (Abu Dhabi), MOHAP (federal) licence number AT THE TOP of the CV, before profile. Specialty, category (GP / Specialist / Consultant), and DataFlow / Prometric verification status. UAE healthcare hires nothing without verified licensing.

Name MoHRE-attested education and SOE membership for engineers

MoHRE attestation of foreign degrees is mandatory for visa issuance — state "MoHRE Attested" next to non-UAE qualifications. Society of Engineers UAE (SOE) membership and certification category (consultant / construction / supervisor) called out for engineering roles. UAE driving licence (manual / automatic, category) listed too.

Quantify in AED and name mega-projects

AED for financial metrics. Burj Khalifa, Dubai Marina, Yas Island, Saadiyat Cultural District, Expo City, Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, ADNOC Gas, RTA Metro Phase 2, Etihad Rail, NEOM-adjacent UAE work — call these out by name. Project value in AED (e.g., "AED 2.4B mixed-use development, Aldar Properties") moves the needle.

Include notice period and current package range

UAE recruiters factor notice period into shortlist sequencing. State at the bottom of personal details: "Notice period: 30 days (limited contract)" or "60 days (unlimited senior)". Current and expected package range in AED is increasingly requested by recruitment agencies — "Negotiable based on family benefits package" is an acceptable answer if you prefer not to specify.
