Free Indian Resume Templates
An Indian resume runs two pages, lists 10th / 12th / UG percentages, and is screened on institute tier as much as on experience. Qarera's free Indian resume templates parse cleanly through Naukri, Hirist, Instahyre, and the ATS stack Indian employers actually use — Workday (TCS, Infosys, GCC captives), Darwinbox (Tata Group, Adani), Keka (startups and mid-market), and SuccessFactors (HCL, Wipro). Fresher to CXO formats. Edit online with AI bullet rewrites.

Indian resume templates by stage
Each template is a two-page Indian format. Pick by sector and career stage.
Fresher Resume (India)
Best for: B.Tech, B.E., BBA, B.Com, MBA freshers, campus placement applicants
Structure: Contact → Career Objective → Education (with 10th / 12th / UG percentages or CGPA) → Projects → Internships → Technical Skills → Certifications → Achievements
Indian recruiters at TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and Accenture screen on tier of institute + CGPA first, then projects. List 10th, 12th, and UG percentages — yes, all three. Campus recruiters still ask.
Use templateIT / Engineering (India)
Best for: Software developers, full-stack, data engineers, DevOps, QA at TCS, Infosys, Wipro, GCC captives, product companies
Structure: Contact → Summary → Technical Skills → Work Experience (with project details under each role) → Education → Certifications → Achievements
Project-level detail under each company — Indian IT services hire on bench-to-project model, so list each project with stack, role, team size, and client industry. Naukri and Hirist screen on stack keywords aggressively.
Use templateBanking & Finance (India)
Best for: BFSI roles — banking ops, credit, treasury, KYC / AML, CAs, equity research, fintech
Structure: Contact → Profile Summary → Education (CA / CFA / MBA Finance prominent) → Work Experience → Certifications (NISM, IIBF) → Achievements
CA, CS, CFA, FRM, NISM, IIBF certifications carry specific weight at HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, SBI, and the rest of the BFSI stack. List the institute (ICAI / ICSI / IIM) plainly — recruiters screen on the acronym.
Use templateSales & Business Development (India)
Best for: Field sales, B2B SaaS, FMCG, pharma, real estate, edtech BDR/AE roles
Structure: Contact → Summary → Work Experience (with revenue, region, accounts) → Education → Skills → Achievements
Revenue numbers in INR (₹), region covered, and target vs achievement % are the metrics that move the needle. List achievement against quota for each year. FMCG and pharma recruiters at HUL, ITC, Marico, Sun Pharma weight territory wins specifically.
Use templateGovernment / PSU
Best for: PSU recruitment (ONGC, IOCL, BHEL, NTPC, BEL), bank PO, SSC, UPSC interview stage, state govt
Structure: Contact → Personal Details (DOB, father's name, address) → Career Objective → Education → Experience → Achievements → Declaration → Signature
Government and PSU applications still expect a fuller personal details block (DOB, father's name, address) and a signed declaration at the bottom. This is the one place in India where the "old format" still applies. Don't modernise it for these applications.
Use templateSenior Management / Leadership (India)
Best for: VP+, CXO, founders, BU heads at Indian MNCs, GCC captives, listed companies
Structure: Contact → Executive Summary → Core Competencies → Career History → Board / Advisory → Education (IIT / IIM / ISB prominent) → Certifications
Two-to-three pages. P&L scale in INR crores, headcount, BSE / NSE listing of past employers, and IIT / IIM / ISB / XLRI tier all weighted heavily. CXO search firms (EMA Partners, Egon Zehnder India) screen on this.
Use templateIndian resume vs US resume: what's different
If you're applying in India with a US-style resume, these differences trip recruiters during screening.
| 🇮🇳 India | 🇺🇸 United States |
|---|---|
| Two pages, sometimes three — detail is expected, not punished | One page unless 10+ years |
| "Resume" or "CV" used interchangeably; "CV" common for freshers and academics | Resume for corporate, CV for academia |
| No photo on most modern resumes; older industries / PSU still ask for one | Never include a photo |
| Personal details (DOB, gender, nationality) common, even on private-sector resumes | Protected characteristics omitted |
| Father's / Spouse's name still requested in PSU and govt applications | Never |
| Date format: "March 2024" or "Mar 2024" or "03/2024" all accepted | "March 2024" or "03/2024" |
| 10th, 12th, UG percentages or CGPA all listed — even for senior roles | GPA only for new grads, rarely 10th/12th equivalents |
| Tier of institute (IIT / NIT / IIM / Tier-1 / Tier-2) weighted heavily | School name listed, prestige inferred not stated |
| Mother tongue and other languages listed (Hindi, Tamil, etc.) | Language skills only if relevant |
| File saved as "Firstname Lastname Resume.pdf" or "Firstname_Lastname_Resume.pdf" | "Firstname Lastname Resume.pdf" |

Open the Indian Resume BuilderHow to state work authorization
For Indian applications, this is rarely needed for citizens. For OCI cardholders, foreign nationals, and outbound applications, state it clearly.
Indian Citizen
List plainly: "Indian Citizen". No restrictions. For overseas roles, mention passport validity.
OCI / PIO Cardholder
State "OCI Cardholder" — right to live and work in India indefinitely, no employment visa needed. Common for NRIs returning to India.
Employment Visa (foreign national)
Foreign nationals in India: state "Employment Visa, current sponsor: [Company]". Required for any foreign national working in India over 180 days; minimum US$25,000/year salary threshold applies.
Business Visa
For short-term roles, consultancy, or before employment visa transition. State clearly with duration.
Work rights for outbound India applications
When applying for roles overseas from India, state the destination work-rights status separately: "Requires H-1B sponsorship", "Tier 2 / Skilled Worker sponsorship needed", "PR application in progress (Express Entry)".
Indian passport holder applying abroad
For UK / US / EU applications, name your work status clearly. Recruiters there don't assume Indian passport = no work rights — they ask explicitly. Pre-empt the question.
Writing tips for Indian resumes
Lead with degree + institute, not job title
B.Tech CSE, IIT Delhi (2018) or MBA Finance, IIM Bangalore (2020) — Indian recruiters and screeners read tier first, then experience. Use the institute name in full with the campus where relevant ("IIT Bombay", "IIM Calcutta"). For Tier-2 / Tier-3 institutes, compensate with project depth and CGPA.
List percentages or CGPA for 10th, 12th, and UG
Yes, all three for freshers and within five years of graduation. Campus recruiters at TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, and Cognizant screen on 10th + 12th + UG cutoffs. For senior roles (15+ years), retain only UG and PG with institute and year.
Use Indian acronyms for certifications and qualifications
CA (ICAI), CS (ICSI), CFA, FRM, CMA, NISM, IIBF, AICTE, BCI. Don't translate or expand them — write "CA, ICAI (2022)" not "Chartered Accountant (India)". For tech: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Fundamentals, PMP, Scrum Master with cert ID. Naukri and Hirist parse the acronyms directly.
Quantify in INR with lakhs / crores called out
"Managed ₹2.5 Cr revenue portfolio across 12 enterprise accounts in BFSI" — INR symbol, lakh / crore notation, sector named. Indian recruiters parse lakhs and crores natively; converting everything to USD reads as forced. For outbound applications (US, UK, Europe), convert and clarify.
For IT services, write project-level detail under each role
Indian IT services (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Cognizant) work on a project-allocation model — recruiters care about which projects you ran, which client industry, what stack, and team size. List 2–4 projects per role with: client industry / domain, stack, role, team size, duration, key deliverables.
For PSU and government, keep the old format
PSU (ONGC, IOCL, BHEL, NTPC), bank PO, SSC, UPSC interview stage, and state government applications still expect: full personal details block (DOB, father's name, address), passport photo attached, signed declaration at the end. Don't modernise these — recruiters will flag a missing declaration as incomplete.
