CV Format for Nepal: Nepali CV Samples and Free Templates
A standard Nepali CV runs two to three pages, carries a Personal Details block with the citizenship number and a Bikram Sambat date of birth, lists bachelor, +2 and SEE with GPA out of 4.00, names the campus as well as the university, and closes with two referees and a signed declaration. Qarera's free Nepal templates parse cleanly through the MeroJob, Kumari Job and JobsNepal parsers.
NPR lakh / crore metrics · SEE, +2, citizenship fields built in · Declaration and signature block included
The short answer
The standard CV format in Nepal is a two-page, single-column document in this order: contact details, personal details, career objective, education covering bachelor, +2 and SEE, work experience, trainings and certifications, skills, language proficiency, and two named referees, closing with a declaration and signature. One page is right only for the IT segment.
You will see the same document called a Nepali CV format, a CV Nepali format, a curriculum vitae format in Nepal, a CV template Nepal employers recognise, or a biodata format in Nepal - and for job applications they all mean this. If you are looking for a CV sample Nepal recruiters actually shortlist, or a sample of CV for job application in Nepal, the fields below are what decide it rather than the styling.
One edit is worth more than any other and almost nobody makes it: name your campus, not just the university. Tribhuvan University affiliates hundreds of campuses of very different reputations, and "Shanker Dev Campus, Tribhuvan University" carries information that "Tribhuvan University" alone does not.

Nepali CV formats by sector
Each is a two-to-three-page CV template Nepal employers recognise, including a simple CV format in Nepal, a CV format for students in Nepal, and a CV format for bank job in Nepal applications. The right CV format for job in Nepal depends on the sector - the format of CV for job in Nepal at a commercial bank differs genuinely from one at an INGO - so pick by sector below.
Fresh Graduate & Student (Nepal)
Best for: +2 and bachelor-level students and recent graduates from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, Pokhara University, Purbanchal and the affiliated campuses
Structure: Contact → Personal Details → Career Objective → Education (Bachelor, +2, SEE with GPA) → Internship / Project → Trainings → Skills → Language → Referees → Declaration
With little work history the education block carries the CV, so write all three levels with the right scale - GPA out of 4.00 for SEE and +2 under the NEB, and CGPA out of 4.00 or percentage for the bachelor depending on your university. Name the campus as well as the university, because "Shanker Dev Campus, Tribhuvan University" tells a Nepali recruiter far more than "Tribhuvan University" alone. Treat internships and college projects as real experience with quantified bullets.
Use this formatBanking & Financial Institutions (BFI)
Best for: Trainee, Assistant and Officer roles at the commercial banks, development banks, finance companies and microfinance institutions across Kathmandu and the provinces
Structure: Contact → Personal Details → Career Objective → Education → Work Experience (with NPR figures) → Trainings (AML/KYC, NBI) → Skills → Language → Referees
Banking is one of the largest structured graduate employers in Nepal and the CV format for bank job in Nepal applications is well established. Quantify in NPR using lakh and crore as locals do - deposit growth, portfolio size, account numbers, daily cash handled, cross-sell against target. Name your core banking system (Pumori, Finacle, T24) and your compliance trainings, and state a clean NRB compliance record if you have one, because it is checked.
Use this formatINGO & Development (Kathmandu)
Best for: Programme, field, M&E and finance roles at the UN agencies, USAID and FCDO implementing partners, Save the Children, World Vision, ICIMOD and the Nepali NGOs
Structure: Contact → Personal Details → Professional Summary → Work Experience (with donor, district and beneficiary numbers) → Education → Trainings → Skills → Language → Referees
Nepal has a large and long-established development sector and this segment screens on a precise vocabulary: donor name (USAID, FCDO, UNICEF, WFP, GIZ, EU), project cycle, log-frame, beneficiary reach, and district and palika coverage under the federal structure. Name the districts, because remote and hill-district field experience is screened directly. Add the tools - KoboToolbox, ODK, SPSS - and note any earthquake or disaster-response programme work.
Use this formatIT & Tech (Nepal)
Best for: Software engineers, QA, data and product roles at F1Soft, eSewa, Khalti, Leapfrog Technology, CloudFactory, Deerwalk, Verisk Nepal and the outsourcing employers
Structure: Contact → Professional Summary → Technical Skills → Work Experience → Projects → Education → Certifications → GitHub / Portfolio
This is the one Nepali segment that has moved to the Western resume: no personal details, no citizenship number, no photo, no declaration, and one to two pages. Lead with the stack for keyword matching and put GitHub and a portfolio link in the contact line. A large share of Nepali tech work is outsourced to US and European clients, so write for a reader who does not know your campus, and convert NPR figures where relevant.
Use this formatLoksewa & Government
Best for: Public Service Commission (Loksewa Aayog) applicants, provincial and local-level government posts, and state corporations
Structure: Contact → Personal Details (full block) → Career Objective → Education (all levels with board and year) → Work Experience → Trainings → Skills → Referees → Declaration → Signature
Government applications keep the fullest version of the Nepali CV: complete personal details with citizenship number, permanent address in the ward and district form, every level of education with the board and passing year, and a signed declaration at the end. Do not modernise this one. Loksewa vacancy notices are specific about documentation and format, so follow the notice exactly rather than sending a general-purpose CV.
Use this formatForeign Employment (Gulf, Korea, Japan)
Best for: Applicants for overseas employment through the Department of Foreign Employment, EPS Korea, and direct applications to Gulf and Japanese employers
Structure: Contact → Personal Details (with passport number and validity) → Professional Summary → Work Experience → Education → Skills & Trade Certifications → Language (with test scores) → Referees
Overseas employment is a very large part of the Nepali job market and the CV shifts for it. Passport number and validity, medical fitness status, and any prior Gulf or Malaysia experience go near the top. Trade certification from CTEVT carries real weight for skilled roles. For EPS Korea state your EPS-TOPIK result and for Japan your JLPT level with the test date - language test scores are a hard gate rather than a nice-to-have on these routes.
Use this formatNepali CV vs US resume: what's different
Personal details, all three education levels, the campus name and the declaration - the differences that decide whether a CV in Nepal reads as complete.

Open the Nepal CV BuilderPersonal details and results: what to include
Nepali practice is settled on most of these and shifting on a couple. Here is the field-by-field position.
Citizenship number
Expected on government and Loksewa applications and conventional at traditional employers and banks, where it is used for verification. Increasingly dropped in the IT and INGO segments. Include it where the vacancy notice asks for it, and leave it off a CV you upload to a public job-board profile or email speculatively - it is a national identifier and a CV is a document you circulate widely.
Date of birth in Bikram Sambat and Gregorian
Give both - "12 Bhadra 2054 B.S. (28 August 1997)". Nepali institutions, government notices and academic certificates run on the Bikram Sambat calendar while international employers and most software expect Gregorian, and a date given in only one system regularly causes confusion at verification. The same applies to employment dates on government-facing CVs.
Passport-size photo
Expected across banking, government, traditional corporates and foreign-employment applications, and dropped by the IT firms and most INGOs. Where required, use a plain-background formal photo. When the vacancy notice is silent and the employer is a local or government one, including it is the safer default.
SEE, +2 and bachelor results
List all three, and use the right scale for each. SEE and +2 under the National Examinations Board are graded on GPA out of 4.00 - note that the Grade 10 examination has been the SEE since 2016, with the SLC name moving to the Grade 12 examination, so use the name that appears on your own certificate. Bachelor results are CGPA out of 4.00 or a percentage depending on the university; state which, because the two get confused.
Campus name, not just the university
Tribhuvan University is enormous and affiliates hundreds of campuses of very different reputations, so "Shanker Dev Campus, Tribhuvan University" or "Pulchowk Campus, IOE" carries information that the university name alone does not. Nepali recruiters read campus names fluently. This is one of the highest-value single edits on a Nepali CV and most candidates leave it out.
Permanent and temporary address
Give the permanent address in the ward, municipality or rural municipality, district and province form, and the temporary address if you currently live elsewhere. This is standard on government and bank applications, and for field and provincial postings employers genuinely read it as an indicator of local language and familiarity with the posting area.
Named referees
Two named referees with designation, organisation, phone number and email. Nepali hiring runs on personal networks and referees are called at shortlist stage, so a named list moves you forward while "available on request" adds a delay. Use former supervisors or campus faculty, and brief them before you start applying.
Writing tips for Nepali CVs
Six things that separate a professional CV format in Nepal recruiters shortlist from the normal CV format in Nepal most people send. CV writing in Nepal rewards local specificity more than design.
Name the campus, not just the university
This is the single highest-value edit on a Nepali CV and most candidates miss it. Tribhuvan University affiliates hundreds of campuses of very different reputations, so "Shanker Dev Campus, Tribhuvan University" or "Pulchowk Campus, Institute of Engineering" carries information the university name alone does not. Nepali recruiters read campus names fluently, and leaving yours out means a screener assigns you the average rather than your actual campus.
Give dates in both Bikram Sambat and Gregorian
Write "12 Bhadra 2054 B.S. (28 August 1997)" and do the same for employment dates on government-facing CVs. Nepali institutions, vacancy notices and academic certificates run on Bikram Sambat while international employers and most software expect Gregorian, and giving only one system regularly causes confusion at the verification stage. Giving both costs a few characters and removes a real friction point.
Use the right grading scale for each level
SEE and +2 under the National Examinations Board are GPA out of 4.00; bachelor results are CGPA out of 4.00 or a percentage depending on the university. State which scale you are using, because the two get confused constantly. Also use the exam name that appears on your own certificate - the Grade 10 examination has been the SEE since 2016 and the SLC name moved to Grade 12, so which one is correct depends on when you sat it.
Quantify in NPR the way Nepal actually counts
Use lakh and crore, as locals and local employers do - "NPR 21 crore in deposits" reads naturally to a Nepali recruiter where "NPR 210,000,000" does not. Add an approximate USD figure only when the CV may go to an international or INGO reader who will not convert it. Deposit growth, portfolio size, account numbers, daily cash handled, beneficiary reach and headcount are the metrics that differentiate.
Name donors and districts for INGO roles
Nepal has a large, long-established development sector that screens on proper nouns: donor (USAID, FCDO, UNICEF, WFP, GIZ, EU), project name and cycle, log-frame and indicator work, beneficiary reach, and district and palika coverage under the federal structure. Name the districts, because remote and hill-district field experience is screened directly, and note any disaster-response or reconstruction programme work.
Match the segment, not the job title
Nepal runs two live CV conventions at once. Banks, government and Loksewa, traditional corporates and foreign-employment applications expect the full format: personal details, citizenship number, photo, all three education levels, declaration and signature. The IT firms - F1Soft, eSewa, Leapfrog, CloudFactory, Deerwalk, Verisk - have moved to the Western resume, and the full block works against you there. Decide which document you are writing first, and keep both.
Applying abroad from Nepal
Overseas employment is a very large part of the Nepali job market, and the format shifts by destination. The Gulf keeps the fuller CV and adds passport, visa status and a photo. The English-speaking West does the opposite - strip the personal details, citizenship number, photo and declaration, because those fields can count against you there. Switch to the destination format:
