Description
1. Position Overview
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, execution, and successful delivery of construction and fit-out projects. The role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards, statutory regulations, and client requirements. The Project Engineer works closely with consultants, contractors, internal stakeholders, and project teams throughout the entire project lifecycle from planning through to handover.
2. Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Coordination
- Assist the Senior Project Manager / Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing construction projects.
- Monitor project schedules and ensure activities are delivered in line with approved timelines.
- Coordinate with consultants, architects, contractors, and internal departments to ensure smooth project execution.
- Track project progress and prepare regular progress reports.
- Identify project risks and recommend mitigation plans.
Construction Management
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor construction progress, workmanship, and compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Review shop drawings, technical submissions, and material approvals.
- Resolve technical issues in coordination with consultants and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with local authority regulations, health & safety requirements, and quality standards.
Contract & Cost Management
- Assist with tender evaluations and contractor selection.
- Monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations.
- Review progress claims, variations, and change requests.
- Assist in controlling project costs and maintaining approved budgets.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure construction works meet company quality standards and project specifications.
- Conduct inspections and coordinate snagging activities.
- Follow up on corrective actions until project completion.
- Ensure all testing and commissioning activities are completed successfully.
Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with internal departments including Procurement, Commercial, Finance, Legal, Facilities Management, and Operations.
- Maintain effective communication with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
- Provide project updates to management as required.
Project Handover
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, and final inspections.
- Ensure all project documentation is completed before handover.
- Manage the successful handover of completed projects to Operations, Facilities Management, or Clients.
- Ensure all outstanding defects are rectified within agreed timelines.
3. Skills & Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.
- Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent) is an advantage.
- LEED Accreditation or sustainability certification is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in construction project management, fit-out, or building projects.
- Experience managing consultants, contractors, and multiple stakeholders.
- UAE project experience is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Power BI, and MS Office.
- Strong knowledge of UAE authority regulations and construction standards.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
