Job description
Dordrecht / Alblasserdam | 40 hours per week | occasional travel to Herentals (BE)
Our customers are growing fast — and so are we. That means more colleagues, more locations and more systems that all have to keep working. As our System Engineer you are the person who makes sure they do. You are the go-to face of IT for everyone at QLS in the Netherlands and Belgium: from a sales colleague whose laptop won’t cooperate, to a brand-new warehouse team member who needs a working scanner on day one.
This is a hands-on, broad role. One day you are setting up workplaces and accounts for four new starters; the next you are on the phone with our network supplier about a switch in the warehouse, or sorting out a DNS record for a new domain. No two weeks look the same, and you own your own work.
You join our Essentials team — the shared services team behind everything that keeps QLS running: IT, infra, security, data and tooling. Every other team depends on us, and you report to the Team Lead of Essentials.
Your role as System Engineer
Workplaces. You manage our laptops, phones, screens and peripherals end to end — deployment, software, updates and support. Colleagues come to you when something doesn’t work, and you make sure it does.
Onboarding and offboarding. You arrange accounts, licences, access rights and hardware so new colleagues can start properly, and you close everything down cleanly and securely when someone leaves. You also look for ways to automate this instead of doing it by hand every time.
Cloud workplace and identity. You manage our cloud identity, mail and collaboration environment: accounts and groups, mailboxes and shared mailboxes, multi-factor authentication, access policies and licences.
Network. You keep the network running across our sites — WiFi, switches, firewall, VPN and the connections between Dordrecht, Alblasserdam and Herentals. Straightforward work you handle yourself; for the bigger pieces you steer our suppliers.
Suppliers and contracts. You are our contact person for hardware suppliers, internet providers and service partners. You escalate, chase tickets, hold them to their SLA, keep an eye on renewals and costs, and order what we need.
Domains, DNS and certificates. You manage our domain registrations, DNS records, SSL certificates and mail authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
Security and compliance. You keep endpoint protection, backups and access policies in order, pick up security alerts, maintain our asset register, and support our ISO 27001 and NIS2 work.
Documentation and improvement. You write things down so the next person can follow them, and you pick up improvement projects: rollouts, migrations and automation.
This is you
MBO-4 or HBO in ICT, and 2 to 5 years’ experience in a broad system administration, workplace management or IT support role.
You are at home in a Microsoft cloud workplace — identity, mail, collaboration — and you have worked with modern endpoint management to roll out and secure devices centrally.
You have solid networking fundamentals: VLANs, DHCP, DNS, WiFi and firewall rules. You can read a network diagram and follow a problem through it.
You are comfortable managing suppliers: you ask the next question, don’t let a ticket go quiet, and know when to escalate.
Certification such as MD-102, MS-102, AZ-104, CCNA or a firewall vendor equivalent is a plus. So is scripting — if you’d rather automate a task than repeat it, we’ll like you.
You speak and write Dutch and English fluently. Dutch, because you work with colleagues across the whole company; English, because we are part of an international group.
Service-minded and calm under pressure. In a logistics operation something is always urgent. You set priorities and communicate clearly with people who are not technical.
You are willing to join our on-call (piket) roster and you hold a driving licence.
What we offer
A broad role with real ownership. You are the IT person our Dutch and Belgian colleagues rely on, not a ticket number in a large department.
A place in the Essentials team, with short lines to everyone in the company.
A modern workplace on the water in Dordrecht and our office in Alblasserdam, with a young, close-knit team.
Your get the equipment and the software you need to do the job well.
An annual training and certification budget.
Lunch provided, regular team outings.
About QLS QLS is a Dutch e-commerce logistics company: we take care of warehousing, fulfilment, parcel delivery and the software behind it, so webshops can focus on growing. What started in 1990 as a small depot is now an international group serving over 3,000 webshops with more than 1,000 colleagues, with automated fulfilment centres in the Dordrecht region and in Herentals, Belgium. We are still a family business at heart — involved and dependable — and we combine that with the pace and ambition of a fast-growing tech company. A dynamic, no-nonsense environment where everyone counts.
