Job Summary

The

Quality Control Inspector

is responsible for inspecting raw materials, work-in-progress components, and finished metal products to ensure they meet approved drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and company quality standards.

The role involves performing dimensional and visual inspections using precision measuring equipment, reviewing manufacturing drawings and tolerances, documenting inspection results, identifying non-conforming products, and working closely with production personnel to resolve quality issues.

Key Responsibilities

Perform

incoming, in-process, and final inspections

of fabricated, machined, welded, and assembled metal components.

Verify product dimensions, tolerances, surface conditions, workmanship, and other requirements against:

Engineering drawings, Customer drawings and specifications

Work instructions

Inspection plans

Approved samples

Use measuring and inspection equipment such as:

Vernier calipers

Micrometers

Height gauges

Depth gauges

Bore gauges

Dial indicators

Thread gauges

Radius gauges

Surface roughness gauges, where applicable

CMM or other advanced inspection equipment, where applicable

Interpret

technical and mechanical drawings

, including dimensional tolerances, geometric tolerances, symbols, and specifications.

Check manufactured components for defects such as incorrect dimensions, poor surface finish, deformation, scratches, dents, burrs, welding defects, and other workmanship issues.

Conduct first-piece / first-article inspections before production runs where required.

Record inspection results accurately in inspection reports, check sheets, or the company's quality management system.

Performed part-marking using Laser engraving machines

Identify, segregate, and clearly mark

non-conforming products

to prevent unintended use or delivery.

Raise

Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)

when products or processes fail to meet specified requirements.

Assist production personnel in identifying the causes of quality problems and implementing corrective actions.

Verify reworked or repaired products before releasing them back into production or for delivery.

Monitor production processes and highlight recurring quality issues to the Quality Supervisor or Quality Manager.

Ensure measuring instruments are within their valid

calibration period

before use.

Maintain measuring equipment in good working condition and report damaged or inaccurate equipment.

Support internal and external quality audits when required.

Ensure inspection records are properly maintained and traceable.

Follow company Quality Management System procedures, safety rules, and manufacturing practices.

Participate in continuous improvement activities to reduce defects, rework, scrap, and customer complaints.

Perform other duties as assigned by the superior.

Minimum Qualifications

NITEC, Higher NITEC, Diploma, vocational certificate, or equivalent qualification in:

Mechanical Engineering

Manufacturing Engineering

Precision Engineering

Mechanical Technology

Quality Engineering

Metal Fabrication

Or a related technical discipline

Previous experience in a

metal fabrication, machining, precision engineering, sheet metal, welding, or manufacturing environment

is preferred.

Entry-level candidates with suitable technical training may also be considered.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate should have knowledge or experience in the following:

Reading and interpreting mechanical / engineering drawings.

Understanding dimensional tolerances and basic

GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

.

Using precision measuring instruments.

Understanding common manufacturing processes such as:

CNC machining

Milling

Turning

Grinding

Sheet metal fabrication

Laser cutting

Bending

Welding

Metal assembly

Understanding common metal materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and other engineering metals.

Basic understanding of inspection procedures and quality documentation.

Knowledge of

ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems

is an advantage.

Familiarity with NCR, corrective action, root cause analysis, or similar quality tools is an advantage.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.

Able to work effectively with production operators, machinists, welders, engineers, and supervisors.

Able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining inspection accuracy.

Working Conditions

Primarily based in a metal manufacturing / workshop environment.

Regular interaction with production machinery and fabricated metal components.

May require standing for extended periods while carrying out inspections.

May occasionally be required to handle or inspect heavy components with appropriate lifting assistance.

Required to wear appropriate

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other equipment according to company safety requirements.

Shift work or overtime may occasionally be required depending on production schedules.

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following will have an advantage:

Precision machining inspection

Sheet metal fabrication inspection

Structural or general metal fabrication

Welding inspection

CNC manufactured components

First Article Inspection (FAI)

GD&T

ISO 9001 manufacturing environments

Supplier incoming inspection

Final inspection before customer delivery

Calibration control

NCR and corrective action management

Role Objective

The Quality Control Inspector is expected to ensure that

only products meeting specified quality requirements are released to customers or subsequent manufacturing processes

, while supporting the company in reducing defects, rework, scrap, and quality-related customer complaints.
