Job Title: Cost Accountant
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reporting To: Finance Manager / Accounts Manager
Location: Al Ain, United Arab Emirates
Employment Type: Full-Time
Required Experience: Minimum 5 years
Job Purpose
The Cost Accountant is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and controlling the company’s costs, preparing cost and profitability reports, monitoring operational expenses, and ensuring accurate recording and classification of costs to support management in making effective financial and operational decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain monthly and periodic cost reports.
- Analyze material, labor, operational, and indirect costs.
- Calculate actual product and service costs and compare them with estimated or budgeted costs.
- Prepare and analyze costing reports and identify variances between actual costs and budgets.
- Review supplier invoices, purchase orders, and supporting documents related to costs.
- Monitor inventory and calculate the cost of materials used, wastage, and inventory variances.
- Perform inventory and cost reconciliations and adjustments when required.
- Calculate the cost of products and services according to the company’s business activities.
- Monitor labor costs and operating expenses and allocate them to the appropriate cost centers.
- Analyze the reasons behind cost increases or decreases and provide recommendations to management.
- Prepare profitability reports by product, service, project, branch, or business unit.
- Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts related to costs.
- Ensure that expenses are properly recorded and allocated to the correct accounts and cost centers.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Warehouse, Operations, and Accounting departments to ensure accurate cost data.
- Support the monthly closing process and ensure that all costs and expenses are properly recorded.
- Prepare periodic management reports covering costs, variances, and profitability.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned by the direct manager.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Cost Accounting.
- Strong experience in cost analysis, profitability reporting, and variance analysis.
- Good knowledge of inventory accounting, reconciliations, and cost control.
- Experience in hospitality, catering, food & beverage, manufacturing, or operational services is preferred.
- UAE experience is preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting and ERP systems such as Oracle and SAP.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to identify cost variances and provide practical recommendations.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Good command of English and Arabic.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy of cost reports.
- Accuracy of product and service costing.
- Accuracy of inventory reports and reconciliations.
- Accuracy of cost center allocations.
- Timely completion of monthly closing and cost reports.
- Timely identification and resolution of cost variances.
- Quality of financial analysis and recommendations provided to management.
Pay: AED6,000.00 - AED7,000.00 per month
