🕒 Employment Type: Full-Time
💼 Level: Mid-Level to Senior
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and site-focused Clerk of Works to oversee construction activities, inspect workmanship and materials, monitor project progress, and ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements. The role will work closely with Project Managers, Resident Engineers, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to identify defects, resolve site issues, and maintain high construction standards. This reflects the core Clerk of Works function in Malaysia: site inspection, quality monitoring, progress reporting, drawing/specification compliance, and coordination between project stakeholders. 🎯 Key Responsibilities
• Conduct regular and daily site inspections to monitor construction activities and workmanship.
• Ensure construction works comply with approved architectural, structural, civil, and M&E drawings and specifications.
• Inspect materials delivered to site and verify compliance with approved samples, specifications, and Bills of Quantities.
• Monitor workmanship quality and identify defects, non-conformities, and construction deficiencies.
• Record defects and follow up with contractors to ensure proper rectification and remedial works.
• Monitor construction progress against approved project schedules and work programmes.
• Identify delays, deviations, technical issues, and potential risks that may affect project completion.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, specifications, method statements, and other technical documents.
• Verify construction dimensions, levels, materials, installation methods, and completed works against approved requirements.
• Witness and record site inspections, testing, material testing, and other quality-control activities.
• Maintain accurate daily site diaries, inspection records, progress reports, photographs, and project documentation.
• Attend site meetings, coordination meetings, technical discussions, and progress meetings.
• Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, engineers, architects, and project management teams regarding site matters.
• Report construction defects, safety concerns, quality issues, delays, and deviations to the Project Manager or Resident Engineer.
• Monitor contractor compliance with site safety, housekeeping, environmental, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Assist in coordinating architectural, civil & structural, mechanical, and electrical works where applicable.
• Check that completed works are properly inspected before concealed works proceed.
• Maintain organized project files, drawings, inspection records, material approvals, test reports, and correspondence.
• Assist with progress verification, valuation-related inspections, and measurement of completed works where required.
• Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance against project requirements.
• Support quality assurance and quality control initiatives throughout the construction lifecycle.
• Participate in defect inspections, handover activities, testing and commissioning, and final completion inspections.
• Identify opportunities to improve construction quality, site coordination, documentation, and project efficiency.
✅ Requirements
• Proven experience as a Clerk of Works, Inspector of Works, Site Supervisor, Site Inspector, Construction Inspector, or related construction role .
• Strong hands-on experience in construction site inspection, supervision, quality control, and progress monitoring.
• Good knowledge of construction methods, materials, workmanship standards, and site practices.
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand architectural, civil & structural, M&E drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and method statements .
• Experience monitoring contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with approved project requirements.
• Strong knowledge of construction quality-control procedures and defect identification.
• Experience preparing daily site reports, inspection reports, progress reports, photographs, and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with construction materials, testing procedures, site inspections, and quality standards.
• Knowledge of relevant Malaysian construction regulations, authority requirements, and industry practices is an advantage.
• Familiarity with CIDB, JKKP/DOSH, local authority requirements, and applicable construction standards is preferred. (kpproperty.com.my)
• Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental, and site-management requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong observation and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and coordination skills when dealing with contractors, consultants, engineers, and project teams.
• Ability to identify discrepancies between drawings, specifications, and actual site conditions.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate project records.
• Ability to work independently at construction sites and manage multiple site activities.
• Willingness to work extended hours when required by project schedules.
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Relevant construction, engineering, safety, or quality certifications are an advantage.
• Several years of hands-on site experience, particularly in residential, commercial, high-rise, infrastructure, or property-development projects, is preferred. Current Malaysian postings commonly request substantial site experience and construction-drawing knowledge. (kpproperty.com.my)
