Job Title: MEP Design Engineer

Job Purpose

The MEP Design Engineer is responsible for the design, coordination, review, and technical delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems across the company’s projects. The role ensures that MEP designs are technically sound, fully coordinated with architectural and structural disciplines, compliant with applicable codes and authority requirements, and delivered in accordance with project timelines, quality standards, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, develop, review, and coordinate MEP designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Design and review HVAC, electrical, plumbing, drainage, water supply, fire protection, and associated building-services systems.
• Perform engineering calculations, load calculations, equipment sizing, and system selection.
• Coordinate MEP designs with architectural, structural, interior design, landscape, and other disciplines.
• Review consultant designs and ensure compliance with project requirements, design standards, and employer specifications.
• Identify and resolve design clashes, technical discrepancies, and constructability issues at an early stage.
• Review shop drawings, material submittals, technical submittals, RFIs, method statements, and contractor proposals.
• Ensure compliance with relevant UAE authority regulations, local codes, international standards, and sustainability requirements.
• Support submissions and coordination with relevant authorities for approvals and NOCs.
• Participate in design coordination and technical meetings with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate MEP requirements within BIM/Revit models and support clash-detection and design-resolution processes.
• Evaluate alternative technical solutions and support value engineering and cost-optimization exercises without compromising performance or quality.
• Provide technical support during tender, procurement, and construction stages.
• Respond to RFIs, technical queries, and design changes during project execution.
• Conduct site inspections when required to verify that MEP installations comply with approved drawings and specifications.
• Support testing, commissioning, snagging, and handover activities where required.
• Maintain accurate records of design revisions, approvals, technical correspondence, and project documentation.
• Monitor MEP design deliverables against the project programme and proactively report potential design risks or delays.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant MEP design experience, preferably within the UAE.
• Previous experience with residential, commercial, hospitality, or mixed-use developments is preferred.
• Strong understanding of MEP design principles, coordination requirements, and construction practices.
• Good knowledge of applicable UAE codes and authority requirements.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and working knowledge of Revit MEP/BIM.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, drainage, and fire-protection systems.
• Ability to review and interpret MEP drawings, specifications, BOQs, and technical documents.
• Knowledge of engineering calculations, equipment selection, and system sizing.
• Understanding of BIM coordination and clash detection.
• Knowledge of authority submission and approval processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering/design software.
