Job description

Job summary:

Senior AMI Cybersecurity & OT Engineer responsible for securing end-to-end AMI systems (meters, gateways, HES/MDMS, and networks). Leads implementation of cybersecurity controls across IT/OT in line with IEC 62443, DOE UAE, UAE IA, NIST, and ISO 27001, covering security architecture, PKI/KMS, secure communications, and threat monitoring to ensure system confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

  • Ensure the compliance of organization’s policy, systems, processes, procedures, and controls in line with group delegation of authority policy so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.
  • Reporting
  • Ensure that all reports are completed timely and comply with the business policies and standards.
  • Manage the preparation of periodical management reports and progress reports to keep the business senior management informed about the progress of various initiatives and to facilitate decision-making.
  • Comply with organization’s requirements in a timely manner.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • To lead and develop a robust OT Cyber security architecture and system and to provide expert technical knowledge in the identification, monitoring and remedy of cyber security threats to TAQA Operational Technology systems and assets.
  • To develop and update OT Cyber security policy procedure, systems and tools.
  • Act as the focal point for AMI cybersecurity on the meter and field device side, coordinating with IT/OT and contractor.
  • Support implementation of secure communication for meters (DLMS/COSEM, TLS/VPN, encryption) in alignment with defined standards.
  • Coordinate with IT/OT teams on PKI/KMS, access control, and network security requirements for meter integration.
  • Validate and ensure meter and gateway security features are properly configured during onboarding and deployment.
  • Assist in defining and verifying secure data flow across Meter–Gateway–HES/MDMS communication layers.
  • Support implementation of access controls (RBAC, MFA) for meter-related systems in collaboration with IT teams.
  • Monitor meter-level security events and support SIEM use cases, log validation, basic incident analysis and SOC integration.
  • Participate in risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, security reviews, and audits focused on AMI field devices.
  • Identify for attacks and intrusions and plan all prevention and remedial measures.
  • Support incident response activities by coordinating with IT/OT teams for meter-related security issues.
  • Work closely with vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with cybersecurity requirements during deployment and operations.

  • Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided at the workplace that supports the interest of HSE, security and welfare.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or IT
  • 8 years of relevant working experience
  • Experience in AMI / smart metering systems (meters, HES, MDMS, gateways)
  • Hands-on knowledge of OT cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443, NIST, ISO 27001)
  • Professional Information & Cyber Security certification (such as CIA, CISA, CISSP, IEC 62443, SANS GISCP, CISM..etc) desirable.
  • Expertise in secure communications (DLMS/COSEM, TLS, VPN) and key management (PKI/KMS/HSM)
  • Experience with telecom-integrated AMI environments (M2M/APN, MPLS, utility-scale deployments)
  • Knowledge of cloud-based OT/AMI architectures and security (hybrid cloud, secure integrations)
