Job Description
- To have accountability for all aspects of the site Quality Control function, including incoming materials, the release of materials for sale or ongoing processing.
- Establish a system to release or reject all materials whether internal or external including the management of the QM module within SAP or equivalent system and maintenance of appropriate records.
- Establish a system to investigate and identify out of specification material, undertake detailed investigations to develop and resolve to ensure out of specification material is reworked into saleable material.
- Approval of quality critical documents.
- Ensure effective systems are in place for maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- To ensure effective systems are in place for the analysis of materials and timely reporting of results.
- Provide a technical support service to other departments as and when required including customer enquiries and complaints.
- To effectively communicate with all people on site and other departments within the organisation on product quality matters and to bring to the attention of the Technical Manager any undesirable trends in product quality and suggest appropriate corrective action.
- To manage SHE performance to meet site and specific laboratory requirements and to identify and continually deliver improvements in laboratory efficiencies to ensure effective management of customer service.
- Support and participate in internal, customer, supplier, certification and regulatory audits, including audit preparation, audit response, CAPA implementation and effectiveness verification.
- Monitor laboratory performance, testing turnaround time, quality metrics and operational trends, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory effectiveness, efficiency and customer service.
- Develop and lead QC personnel through coaching, performance management, employee engagement, competency development and succession planning to support current and future business requirements.
- Work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain and other functions to support investigations, troubleshooting activities, quality improvement initiatives and business objectives.
- Support quality-related projects, initiatives and operational activities, and undertake other duties as assigned by the Technical Manager to support business and quality objectives.
- Frequent decision making within own department can impact other site departments (QC, Customer Care, Logistics) i.e. if out of specification material is sent to a customer it could result in a major claim upon Customer Care.
- To manage overall department performance, financial, objective setting, appraisals, training and development, recruitment and disciplinary measures.
Requirement Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of Quality Control laboratory operations, testing processes and quality management systems.
- Good understanding of GMP, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, EXCiPACT, HACCP and applicable quality requirements.
- Experience in OOS/OOT investigations, root cause analysis, CAPA and problem-solving methodologies.
- Familiarity with SAP QM or equivalent laboratory/quality management systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to lead, coach and develop technical teams.
- Good planning, organisation and resource management skills.
- Ability to analyse data, identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong decision-making capability and ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
Good understanding of laboratory safety, SHE requirements and risk management.

Experience Required
- Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemical Engineering or related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 5-8 years experience in Quality Control, Laboratory Operations or Quality Management environment.
- Minimum 2-3 years experience in people management, supervision or team leadership.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, personal care, food, specialty chemical or regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience supporting customer audits, certification audits and regulatory inspections preferred.
