Job description

We are seeking an experienced Specialist Podiatrist to provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care for patients with foot and ankle disorders. The Specialist Podiatrist will manage routine and complex podiatric conditions, provide diabetic foot care, perform appropriate podiatric procedures, and work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, orthotists, and other healthcare professionals.

The position requires a strong commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety, clinical quality, and excellent patient communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage a broad range of podiatric conditions affecting the foot and ankle.
  • Conduct detailed patient histories and physical examinations, including biomechanical and gait assessments where appropriate.
  • Diagnose and treat conditions such as:
  • Diabetic foot complications
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Corns and calluses
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Heel and forefoot pain
  • Fungal and other nail disorders
  • Warts and skin conditions of the foot
  • Sports and overuse injuries
  • Foot deformities and biomechanical abnormalities
  • Provide comprehensive diabetic foot screening and risk assessment.
  • Perform appropriate podiatric procedures within the scope of professional licensure and competence.
  • Provide wound assessment, wound care, and appropriate ulcer management, particularly for diabetic and high-risk patients.
  • Recommend footwear, orthotics, insoles, off-loading devices, and other appropriate interventions.
  • Educate patients regarding foot hygiene, preventive care, footwear, diabetes-related foot risks, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Identify patients requiring referral to vascular surgery, orthopaedics, endocrinology, dermatology, infectious disease, or other specialties.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation and electronic medical records.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up and continuity of care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and clinical meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with infection-control, patient-safety, and clinical governance policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement, audits, and continuing professional development activities.
  • Maintain professional knowledge in current podiatric techniques, evidence-based practice, and relevant clinical guidelines.
  • Provide a high standard of patient-centred care while maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Podiatry from an accredited institution, with the qualification meeting applicable UAE licensing requirements.
  • For the DHA Podiatrist title, the current Unified Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements specify a bachelor's degree or diploma in Podiatry of at least three years' duration plus two years of post-qualification experience in the related field. An MSc in Podiatry or Doctor of Podiatry may qualify with one year of post-qualification experience.
  • Relevant clinical experience in a hospital, specialist clinic, diabetic foot centre, podiatry clinic, or similar healthcare setting.
  • Current professional registration/license in the country of practice.
  • Candidates must satisfy the applicable DHA Professional Qualification Requirements and credential-verification requirements.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience managing diabetic and high-risk feet.
  • Experience in wound care and ulcer prevention.
  • Experience with biomechanical assessment and orthotic management.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary healthcare environments.
  • Experience in private healthcare or outpatient specialist clinics in the UAE or GCC is advantageous.

The Specialist Podiatrist will primarily work in an outpatient podiatry/medical clinic or hospital environment and may manage both routine and complex cases. The role requires close collaboration with other medical and allied-health professionals.
