Job description

Senior Specialist – Post-Fixing & Shipping Claims

Role:

The Senior Specialist will manage post-fixture activities, with a particular focus on demurrage and other shipping-related claims. The role will work closely with Trading, Shipping Operations, Legal and Finance teams to ensure claims are accurately assessed, negotiated and settled, while minimising financial exposure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, negotiate and defend demurrage and shipping claims, ensuring compliance with contractual time bars.
  • Review and interpret charterparty, laytime and demurrage terms and work with Legal/Contracts where required.
  • Ensure accurate and timely claim calculation, invoicing, recovery and settlement, minimising financial leakage.
  • Monitor time-bar deadlines, claim provisions and post-fixture reporting.
  • Work closely with Trading, Shipping, Finance and Legal teams to identify and reduce demurrage and shipping cost exposure.
  • Maintain accurate records of claims, costs and recoveries.
  • Analyse claims data and identify process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Manage relationships with shipowners, ship agents and trading counterparties.
  • Provide reporting to senior management and support/mentor junior team members.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Maritime Studies, Law or related field.
  • 6–8 years’ experience in shipping, oil trading or commodities.
  • Strong hands-on experience in post-fixture claims, demurrage and shipping disputes.
  • Good knowledge of charterparty terms, laytime and demurrage calculations.
  • Experience working with shipowners, charterers, trading counterparties and shipping stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial, financial and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail and communication abilities.
  • Maritime or Contract Law knowledge is advantageous.
