Job Purpose

  • The Mechanical Senior Site Inspector –is responsible for inspection, verification, and quality assurance activities for the below-ground drainage package on a major Client retail development in the UAE. Referred to as Package 5
  • This role acts as the quality gatekeeper on site, reviewing inspection documentation, and serving as the primary liaison between the inspection team and the Senior Site Engineer.
  • The Senior Inspector will witness critical tests, enforce Client quality standards, and ensure that all drainage installations meet design intent, regulatory requirements, and project specifications prior to concealment or handover.

Qualification and Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in plumbing and fire protection system design.
  • Strong knowledge of local UAE / GCC codes and regulations related to Mechanical system design.
  • Proficiency in design software like Revit and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

Technical Inspection Leadership

  • Lead and oversee all below-ground drainage inspection activities including soil, waste, stormwater, grease waste, and pumped drainage systems to ensure full compliance with approved shop drawings, Client standards, and DM regulations.
  • Conduct advanced inspections of pipe materials (uPVC, HDPE, ductile iron, GRP), dimensions, gradients, invert levels, bedding classifications, and joint integrity prior to authorising backfilling or concrete surround.
  • Inspect critical drainage penetrations through raft foundations, retaining walls, and basement slabs; verify waterproofing details, thrust blocks, and pipe restraint systems are correctly installed.
  • Verify cast-in-situ and precast manhole construction, including dimensional accuracy, cover levels, waterproofing, and access provisions for future maintenance.
  • Authorise or reject works at defined hold points; exercise independent judgement on workmanship quality and compliance before sign-off.

Regulatory & Standards Compliance

  • Ensure all inspected drainage works comply with the Authority Having Jurisdiction regulations for commercial/retail developments.
  • Verify compliance with client technical standards, MEP specifications, and consultant review comments at every inspection stage.
  • Confirm that drainage invert levels, utility crossings, manhole spacing, pipe diameters, and gradients meet authority requirements and approved design.
  • Support the Senior Engineer during authority inspections by preparing inspection records, test certificates, and photographic evidence for presentation.

HSE Observation & Enforcement

  • Observe and enforce excavation safety, trench shoring, and confined space entry protocols during all drainage inspections.
  • Exercise authority to stop work immediately when unsafe conditions are observed; notify the HSE Manager, Senior Engineer, and subcontractor supervision without delay.
  • Lead by example in PPE compliance, housekeeping standards, and safe access practices around open excavations and drainage trenches.
  • Coordinate inspection activities around live public areas and operational retail units to minimise disruption and maintain public safety at all times.

Communication, Reporting & Coordination

  • Produce detailed daily and weekly inspection summary reports for the Senior Engineer, highlighting compliance status, test results, defects, risks, and recommended actions.
  • Escalate critical defects, repeated non-conformances, or programme-threatening issues directly to the Senior Engineer with photographic evidence and proposed solutions.
  • Attend daily site meetings, toolbox talks, progress meetings, and coordination meetings as the quality representative for the drainage package.
  • Communicate inspection requirements, and test readiness to subcontractors to ensure smooth workflow and avoid programme delays.
