Shift Technician - Data Centre Operations (m/f/d) Role Summary Critical 24/7 operational role ensuring availability and performance of mission-critical data centre infrastructure at one of our new client’s facilities. Responsible for monitoring, maintenance, incident response, and compliance with German data centre standards.
Location: Frankfurt am Main
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent (24/7 including weekends/holidays)
Reporting Line: Critical Facilities Manager/Site Lead
Key Responsibilities Infrastructure Monitoring
- Monitor critical systems via BMS/DCIM platforms (power, UPS, cooling, fire protection, security)
- Track environmental parameters and system performance in real-time
- Document all activities and deviations in shift logs
Maintenance & Inspections
- Conduct structured inspection rounds every 2-4 hours
- Perform visual/functional checks of UPS, generators, HVAC, electrical systems
- Execute minor preventive maintenance tasks
- Support planned maintenance activities
Incident Response
- Respond immediately to alarms and system faults
- Perform initial diagnostics and implement emergency protocols
- Coordinate with external service providers
- Escalate critical issues per established procedures
- Document incidents in ticketing systems (ServiceNow, JIRA)
Documentation & Communication
- Complete detailed shift handover reports
- Maintain compliance documentation (DIN EN 50600, ISO 27001)
- Communicate with customers regarding incidents/maintenance
- Coordinate with Security, IT, and Facilities teams
Compliance & Safety
- Enforce security protocols and access control
- Ensure compliance with DGUV, VDE, BDSG/GDPR requirements
- Participate in safety drills and report hazards
Essential Requirements Education & Certifications Required:
- Completed Ausbildung in: Elektroniker für Betriebstechnik, Mechatroniker, Anlagenmechaniker für SHK, or comparable
- Elektrofachkraft certification (or willing to obtain within probation)
- First Aid certification (valid within 2 years)
- Fire Safety Officer training (Brandschutzhelfer)
- Valid Class B driving license
Technical Knowledge
- Electrical power distribution systems (low/medium voltage)
- HVAC and climate control technology
- UPS systems, battery banks, emergency generators
- Basic IT infrastructure (servers, network equipment)
- Understanding of Tier III/IV critical infrastructure concepts
Language Proficiency
- Technical terminology proficiency in German
Personal Competencies
- Independent worker with strong problem-solving skills
- Team-oriented with excellent communication
- High stress tolerance and calm under pressure
- Reliable, punctual, flexible with shift changes
- Minimum 1-2 years technical operations experience
Preferred Qualifications Experience:
- Data centre, telecommunications, or colocation environments
- Tier III/IV certified facilities
- Equipment brands: Schneider Electric, Eaton, Vertiv, Stulz, Siemens
Additional Certifications:
- CDCP (Certified Data Centre Professional)
- Sachkundenachweis Kältetechnik
- VDE certifications (VDE 0100, VDE 0105-100)
- Manufacturer-specific training
Systems:
- DCIM platforms (Nlyte, Sunbird, FNT Command)
- BMS systems (Siemens Desigo, Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls)
- Ticketing systems (ServiceNow, JIRA, BMC Remedy)
