Free New Zealand CV Templates
A NZ CV runs two pages, no photo, no DOB, in New Zealand English — and it's always called a CV, never a resume. Qarera's free NZ templates parse cleanly through Workday (ANZ NZ, ASB, BNZ, Air New Zealand), Greenhouse and Lever (Xero, Datacom, Pushpay), SuccessFactors (Fonterra, Fletcher Building, Spark), and JobAdder (recruitment agencies). AEWV / Accredited Employer Work Visa, PSV, and Working Holiday visa supported. Te reo and iwi engagement fields available.

NZ CV templates by sector
Each template is a two-page NZ format. Pick by sector and career stage.
NZ Graduate
Best for: University of Auckland, Otago, Victoria, Canterbury, Waikato graduates; first-job applicants
Structure: Contact → Profile → Education (with major and any honours) → Work Experience / Internships → Volunteer / Community → Skills → Referees
Education leads at graduate stage. Big 4 NZ (Deloitte / KPMG / EY / PwC NZ), banks (ANZ / ASB / BNZ / Westpac), and Fonterra graduate schemes screen on university + major + grade. Community involvement and sports involvement legitimately count in NZ — keep them on.
Use templateNZ Professional (Mid-Career)
Best for: Mid-career roles at Fonterra, Air NZ, Auckland Council, Fletcher Building, Spark, Vodafone NZ, Z Energy
Structure: Contact → Profile → Key Skills → Work Experience → Education → Professional Memberships → Referees
Two pages standard. Local employers — Fonterra, Air NZ, Fletcher Building, Auckland Council, Wellington City Council — value culture-fit signals; community involvement, "Kiwi experience" if you have it, and NZ-specific certifications all weighted. Two referees with NZ contact details preferred.
Use templateNZ Tech
Best for: Xero (HQ), Datacom, Trade Me, Pushpay, ANZ Tech, BNZ Tech, FAANG Auckland / Wellington
Structure: Contact → Profile → Technical Skills → Work Experience → Projects → Education → Referees
Single-column, table-free. Xero (Wellington HQ), Datacom, Pushpay use Workday and Greenhouse. Auckland and Wellington tech is competitive and stack-match driven — list languages, frameworks, cloud experience explicitly. Open-source GitHub links parse fine.
Use templateHealthcare (NZ)
Best for: Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) public, private hospitals, allied health, aged care
Structure: Contact → Medical Council NZ / Nursing Council NZ Registration → Profile → Clinical Experience → Education → Training & CPD → Referees
Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) number for doctors, Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) registration for nurses — at the top, screened first. Te Whatu Ora district employment, vocational scope, and APC (Annual Practising Certificate) status all listed.
Use templateTrades & Construction (NZ)
Best for: Builders, sparkies, plumbers, gasfitters, drainlayers, site managers — Fletcher Construction, Naylor Love, Dominion Constructors
Structure: Contact → Profile → Licences & Tickets (LBP, EWRB, Site Safe, Safe-Pass) → Work Experience → Skills → Referees
LBP (Licensed Building Practitioner) status by category (Carpentry / Bricklaying / etc.), EWRB (Electrical Workers Registration Board) class, Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board registration, Site Safe Passport, manual handling — these sit at the top. NZ trades hiring nothing without current tickets.
Use templateNZ Executive
Best for: C-suite, NZX-listed, public sector chief executives, Crown entity leadership
Structure: Contact → Executive Summary → Career History → Board & Trusts → Education (with NZ business school / international MBA) → Memberships → Iwi / Community
Two-to-three pages. NZX-listed (Fisher & Paykel, Mainfreight, Auckland Airport, Spark) or Crown entity (Reserve Bank, ACC, Kāinga Ora) leadership scale called out. IoD NZ membership, Treaty competency, and iwi / community engagement weighted at senior public sector level.
Use templateNZ CV vs US resume: what's different
If you're applying in NZ with a US resume, the visa field, photo policy, and community-engagement section are the differences that surface.
| 🇳🇿 New Zealand | 🇺🇸 United States |
|---|---|
| Two pages standard for mid-career | One page unless 10+ years |
| Called a CV, not a resume — for every job | Resume for corporate, CV for academia |
| No photo for most modern roles | Never include a photo |
| No DOB, no marital status, no nationality unless asked | Same |
| Two referees listed at the end (or "available on request") | References omitted entirely |
| NZ spelling: "organise", "centre", "colour", "labour" | "organize", "center", "color" |
| Visa status stated (Citizen / Resident / AEWV / Working Holiday / PSV) | Work auth rarely stated unless asked |
| Date format: "Mar 2024 — Present" or "DD/MM/YYYY" | "March 2024" or "03/2024" |
| Driver's licence class (full / restricted) noted for relevant roles | Rarely listed |
| Sports / community / iwi engagement legitimately listed | Often dropped past entry-level |

Open the NZ CV BuilderHow to state your visa status
Goes in contact details at the top. NZ recruiters screen on this within seconds — AEWV / PSV / Working Holiday status determines screening path.
New Zealand Citizen
List nationality plainly. No restrictions. Free movement to Australia under TTTA.
NZ Resident (Permanent or Resident Visa)
Treated equivalently to citizens for hiring. State as "NZ Resident — no sponsorship required". Path from AEWV via SMC (Skilled Migrant Category) or partnership.
Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV)
Replaces the old Essential Skills Work Visa. Tied to an accredited employer + Job Check + median wage threshold (NZ$31.61/hour from Feb 2025). State as "AEWV — current sponsor: [Employer], valid until [date]" or "Eligible for AEWV (M.Sc. + meets median wage)".
Post Study Work Visa (PSV)
For graduates of NZ qualifications — typically 1-3 years depending on level and study location. State as "Post Study Work Visa valid until [Month Year]". No employer sponsorship needed.
Working Holiday Visa
For nationals of WH-eligible countries (UK, USA, Germany, Japan, Chile, etc.), typically 12-23 months. State the duration and remaining time. Mostly relevant for hospitality, tourism, seasonal, and short-term professional contracts.
Partner / Dependant work visa
Spouse / partner of NZ citizen / resident / work visa holder with work rights. State as "Partner of NZ Resident, work visa valid until [date]" or similar.
Writing tips for NZ CVs
State AEWV / visa status explicitly with sponsor and expiry
"NZ Citizen", "NZ Resident — no sponsorship required", "Accredited Employer Work Visa (current sponsor: [Employer], valid until [date])", "Post Study Work Visa until [Month Year]". NZ recruiters screen on this immediately — the AEWV regime since mid-2022 added Job Check and median wage requirements that change the calculus for SME and Mittelstand-equivalent employers.
Counter the "Kiwi experience" screen for migrants
NZ professional references with NZ phone numbers, NZ volunteer or community work, NZ-based professional registration (Medical Council NZ APC, Engineers NZ Chartered, CA ANZ), NZ address. Translate international experience into NZ-equivalent organisation scale — "Australian retail bank (NZ$50B+ assets)" beats just "Westpac AU".
Use NZ English consistently
"Organise, specialise, centre, colour, labour, programme, defence, judgement". Set Word to English (New Zealand). NZ recruiters notice Americanised spellings — flags as a generic template that hasn't been localised. Mirrors British conventions closely.
Quantify in NZD and reference NZX / Crown entity context
NZD for financial metrics. NZX 50 (Fisher & Paykel, Mainfreight, Auckland Airport, Spark, Contact Energy, Meridian) or Crown entity (Reserve Bank of NZ, ACC, Kāinga Ora, MBIE, Health New Zealand / Te Whatu Ora) scale called out. Reference iwi / hapū engagement, Treaty competency where relevant — particularly for public sector and education.
Keep community, sports, and iwi engagement on
NZ employers — public sector especially — value community involvement and Treaty competency. Volunteer Fire Brigade, Surf Life Saving, Coastguard, school boards, marae / iwi engagement, sports club leadership all legitimately count. For Treaty-relevant roles, state te reo proficiency and iwi affiliation where you have them. Don't embellish.
List NZ-specific registration and tickets
Medical Council NZ (MCNZ) APC for doctors, Nursing Council NZ (NCNZ) for nurses, Engineers NZ Chartered Membership (CPEng) for engineers, NZICA / CA ANZ for accountants, LBP (Licensed Building Practitioner) for builders, EWRB for electricians, Plumbers Gasfitters Drainlayers Board for plumbers. Site Safe Passport, Safe-Pass, and First Aid currency for trades and field roles.
