Barista Resume: Examples, Skills, and Free Template
A barista resume is read by a cafe manager screening for one open position, often during a busy shift. They want to see espresso experience, the volume you can handle (drinks per hour), the POS you've used, and reliability across shift coverage. The strongest barista resume examples lead with one bullet that names cafe type, volume, and equipment.

Why barista resumes are different
Cafe managers hire baristas fast. They screen for fit signals: type of cafe (independent, chain, hotel, drive-thru), espresso machine type (La Marzocco, Slayer, Synesso, Mavam, Nuova Simonelli), POS (Square, Toast, Lightspeed, Clover), and pace (drinks per hour, opening or closing shift coverage). A barista resume that doesn't quickly anchor those gets routed to a generic pile.
The second filter is technical depth. Latte art quality, dial-in skill, espresso troubleshooting, and pour-over consistency are real differentiators. A bullet about competing at a regional barista competition or being the shop's lead opener signals serious craft. "Made coffee drinks" tells the manager nothing.
The third filter is reliability. Cafes run on opening and closing coverage. A bullet about long tenure or 100% attendance over a busy season signals exactly what every cafe manager hopes for. Barista resumes with 4 jobs in 12 months read as flight risk; address timeline patterns directly in the summary if relevant.

What to include on a barista resume
Contact + availability. Name, phone, email, city. Add open availability if it's a strength: "Available 5am-2pm shifts including weekends."
Professional Summary (3-4 lines). Years of barista experience, cafe type, espresso volume per shift, and one differentiator (latte art, lead opener, certified). "Lead barista with 3 years at independent specialty cafe (180-220 drinks per opening shift, La Marzocco Linea PB); SCA Barista Skills Foundation certified, latte art lead" beats "hardworking barista seeking opportunity."
Experience. Reverse chronological. Cafe, role, dates, cafe type and volume. Lead each role with one volume or skill bullet, then 2-3 supporting bullets covering shift role (opener, mid, closer), training new hires, special menu development, and any cafe-floor leadership.
Skills. Group: espresso (machines you've used, dial-in, troubleshooting), milk (latte art, dairy and alternative steaming), brew methods (pour-over, French press, Aeropress, batch brew), POS systems, food handling and cafe ops.
Certifications. Food handler card, ServSafe, alcohol service if cafe sells beer/wine, SCA Barista Skills Foundation or Intermediate, latte art certifications.
Languages. Bilingual baristas in customer-facing roles get noticed; list languages and proficiency.
Skills to put on a barista resume
Lead with the hard skills that ATS keyword scanners can verify. Use soft skills sparingly, and only when paired with a phrase that proves them.

- •Grinder calibration (Mahlkonig, Mazzer, Ditting, Anfim)

- •Alternative milk steaming (oat, almond, soy, coconut)
- •Pour-over and brew methods (V60, Chemex, Kalita, Aeropress)
- •Batch brew calibration
- •POS systems (Square, Toast, Lightspeed, Clover)
- •Cash handling and shift accounting
- •Inventory and ordering
Soft skills
- •Composure during morning rush

ATS keywords for barista resumes
These are the terms applicant tracking systems are tuned to find on a barista resume. Embed them naturally in your bullets and skills section - don't list them as a flat keyword wall.
Sample barista resume bullets
Use these as a model - replace the numbers and contexts with your own. Every bullet leads with a quantified outcome, not a duty.
- 1
Lead barista at independent specialty cafe (180-220 drinks per opening shift on La Marzocco Linea PB); held the dial-in for the seasonal espresso rotation across 4 roasters and 12 months.
- 2
Trained 4 new baristas through 2-week onboarding; rewrote the cafe's milk-steaming and latte art training doc, adopted by ownership as the standard for both locations.
- 3
Built and maintained relationships with 30+ regulars who specifically requested my bar position; per-customer ticket spend on regulars averaged 22% above floor average.
- 4
Developed and tested 6 seasonal beverage recipes adopted by the cafe over 18 months; one (a brown sugar oat cortado) ran year-round and became a top-3 menu item.
- 5
Opened the cafe 5 mornings per week for 14 consecutive months at 5am; 100% on-time attendance during the period; recognized by ownership as the cafe's most reliable opener.
- 6
SCA Barista Skills Foundation certified; placed top-15 at regional barista jam (40 competitors) and represented the cafe at 2 community latte art throwdowns.
Recommended resume structure
Section order matters. ATS systems and human screeners both expect this layout for barista resumes.
- 1Contact + Availability
- 2Professional Summary
- 3Experience
- 4Skills (espresso, milk, brew methods, POS)
- 5Certifications
- 6Languages
- 7Education (if any)
Lead the Professional Summary with cafe type, drinks per shift, espresso machine, and any standout signal (latte art, lead opener, SCA certification). Cafe managers hire fast on volume and reliability; if those aren't above the fold, the resume gets routed to general food-service applications instead of specialty coffee openings.

Common mistakes on barista resumes
No volume or pace context
"Made espresso drinks" tells nothing. Pair with drinks per hour, drinks per shift, or cafe type. "180-220 drinks per opening shift on La Marzocco Linea PB" is screen-pass content.
Missing the espresso machine name
Cafe managers filter for machine experience. La Marzocco, Slayer, Synesso, Mavam, Nuova Simonelli all have learning curves. Spell out which ones you've worked on, not 'commercial espresso machine.'
Generic 'customer service' lines
Every barista claims customer service skills. Replace with one specific moment: a difficult guest you de-escalated, a regular you built, a special order you nailed under pressure.
Skipping certifications
Food handler card and any SCA certifications are credibility signals even at entry. Latte art achievements (regional jam placements, in-house training lead) signal serious craft.
Listing every short-term cafe job
Cap at the last 5 years and the most relevant 4 roles. Long employment lists signal churn, the cafe manager's biggest fear. Consolidate short stints if possible.
No latte art or technical detail
If you can pour clean rosettas, swans, or tulips, name it. Cafes with serious latte art programs explicitly look for this. "Latte art lead, in-house training rotation" is meaningful.
