Position Overview
The Discipline Engineer Mechanical – Rotating Equipment serves as the site technical authority for all critical rotating equipment assets within the Pernis plant.
The position provides expert technical leadership to Maintenance, Reliability, Operations and Project teams, ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of rotating equipment throughout its lifecycle.
The role is responsible for establishing and maintaining technical standards, driving reliability improvements, supporting capital projects, and acting as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for rotating equipment across the site.
This role focusses primarily on rotating equipment however, the role is also expected to provide technical support and engineering guidance for static mechanical equipment and assets.

Job Responsibilities
Technical Authority
Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for rotating equipment and provide technical support for static mechanical equipment.
Develop, maintain and govern site standards, engineering practices and specifications for mechanical equipment.
Ensure compliance with company standards, industry best practices and applicable Dutch and European regulations.
Review and approve technical deviations, repair strategies and equipment modifications.
Provide technical leadership in Management of Change (MoC) processes.
Support maintenance and project teams with complex technical issues and troubleshooting activities.
Reliability & Asset Performance
Lead root cause analyses (RCA) for significant equipment failures and recurring reliability issues.
Identify bad actors and develop improvement plans to enhance equipment reliability and availability.
Analyze equipment performance data, vibration trends and condition monitoring reports.
Develop life-cycle management strategies for critical rotating assets.
Maintain and update Long Term Asset Plans (LTAP) for assigned equipment.
Contribute to Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), FMEA and asset risk assessment activities.
Support equipment integrity programs and define corrective actions based on inspection and condition monitoring findings.
Rotating Equipment Engineering
Provide technical expertise for:
Centrifugal and positive displacement pumps
Reciprocating Compressors
Gearboxes
Mechanical seals
Lubrication systems
Auxiliary rotating equipment
Review and assess:
Equipment design and specifications
Fit-for-purpose assessments
Condition monitoring data
Failure investigations
Repair recommendations
Vendor proposals and technical bids
Equipment criticality assessments
Maintenance strategies and intervals
Additional responsibilities
Static Equipment Support
Provide engineering support for static equipment including:
Pressure vessels
Heat exchangers
Storage tanks
Piping systems
Relief devices
Responsibilities include:
Review inspection findings and support fitness-for-service assessments.
Participate in Mechanical Integrity and Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs.
Support repair scopes, alterations and replacement projects.
Assist in failure investigations involving static equipment.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
Projects and Capital Investments
Develop technical specifications for new mechanical equipment with primary focus on rotating assets.
Participate in Front-End Engineering Design, detailed design reviews and project execution.
Review vendor documentation and technical calculations.
Support HAZOPs, design reviews and risk assessments.
Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and commissioning activities.
Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into future designs and standards.
Maintenance Strategy & Governance
Define maintenance strategies for critical rotating assets and support maintenance strategies for static equipment.
Maintain and improve maintenance standards, work processes and technical procedures.
Support development of maintenance contracts and service agreements.
Ensure quality and consistency of equipment master data within SAP.
Support budget preparation and long-term maintenance planning.
Evaluate maintenance performance and identify improvement opportunities.
Promote standardization and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Technical Bachelor's (HTS) or Master's (Technical university) Degree.
Experience
Minimum 5-10 years of relevant Mechanical Engineering experience in the chemical, petrochemical, refining, energy or industrial sector.
Strong experience with rotating equipment is required. Experience with static equipment and mechanical integrity programs is preferred
Technical Knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Pumps, compressors, gearboxes and mechanical seals.
condition monitoring techniques (rotating and static).
Reliability engineering methodologies.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
Experience with relevant standards including:
API standards
ISO 10816 / ISO 20816
ATEX (mechanical)
Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)
Required additional skills:
Good communication skills, fluency in Dutch and English
