Land Surveyor (Infrastructure – Roads & Cycle Tracks)

Abu Dhabi, UAE

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Land Surveyor to join our team! In this role you will get to perform works in the field as part of a survey crew performing various surveying activities.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Perform land and topographic field surveys for cycle tracks, pedestrian paths, and associated infrastructure (street furniture, lighting, drainage, landscaping) in Abu Dhabi.
  • Establish and verify horizontal and vertical control points along cycle track corridors, including tight urban areas and corridors adjacent to major roads.
  • Carry out geodetic calculations and level runs to ensure accurate setting-out of cycle track alignments, cross-falls, widths, and elevations in accordance with approved design and authority standards.
  • Check setting-out of cycle track centerlines, edges, kerbs, utility corridors, and structures (underpasses, overpasses, retaining walls) and verify compliance with design drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and client representatives to confirm survey requirements specific to cycle track geometry, safety clearances, and accessibility features.
  • Verify locations and protection of existing services (water, power, telecom, drainage) along cycle track routes and ensure that construction activities do not damage utilities.
  • Prepare survey sketches, cross-sections, and layout drawings that clearly show cycle track alignment, levels, and interfaces with existing roads and pedestrian facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date survey records, including field books, digital data, control point logs, and calculation sheets for the cycle track project.
  • Conduct measurements of completed cycle track works (pavement, curbs, signage, markings, street furniture) as required for quantity verification and progress certification.
  • Support the preparation of as-built surveys and documentation for handover to Abu Dhabi authorities and client, ensuring full traceability of survey data.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring

  • Diploma / Associate degree in Civil Engineering, Land Surveying or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years of land surveying experience on infrastructure projects, including at least 2-3 years on cycle track / road / urban streetscape projects in Abu Dhabi or the UAE.
  • Strong experience in setting-out alignments, cross-sections, and levels for linear infrastructure such as cycle tracks, footpaths, and roads.
  • Proficiency in using Total Station, GPS, data collectors, and automatic/laser levels, with the ability to perform independent checks and adjustments.
  • Working knowledge of survey and CAD software (e.g. AutoCad, Civil3D, or equivalent) for producing layout plans, profiles, and as-built drawings related to cycle track works.
  • Ability to perform geodetic and coordinate calculations, transformations, and level computations in accordance with project and Abu Dhabi authority requirements.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly report survey findings and highlight discrepancies to engineers and site management.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary site teams, coordinate with contractors and clients, and adapt to changing site conditions and sequences.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in setting-out and documentation, particularly for safety-critical elements of cycle track design (curbs, barriers, crossings).
  • Commitment to safe work practices and awareness of site safety requirements, especially when working adjacent to live traffic and public areas.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring

  • Previous experience on dedicated cycle track or active mobility projects in Abu Dhabi (or wider UAE), including familiarity with local geometric design standards and authority guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of construction sequences and standard work procedures related to cycle track construction (subgrade preparation, base layers, asphalt, road markings, signage, street furniture).
  • Familiarity with Abu Dhabi authorities’ requirements and approvals (e.g. ADM and other relevant agencies) for survey control, as-built documentation, and handover.
  • Experience coordinating survey works for interfaces between cycle tracks and existing road networks, signalized crossings, and traffic-calming elements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve site survey issues quickly, including discrepancies between design and existing ground conditions, and propose practical solutions to the engineering team.
  • Experience in using advanced survey tools (e.g.RTK GPS, digitl levels or laser scanning) for detailed as-built surveys of cycle tracks and urban corridors.
  • Understanding of best practices for active mobility, road safety, and accessibility, with the ability to support engineers in ensuring cycle tracks are built to safe and user-friendly standards.
