About Dar Massader:
Dar Massader Company mainly focuses on the power industry across the GCC. Dar Massader-Energy & Power started its operations with the intent to offer smart and reliable solutions for the power utilities to ensure the optimum performance of major electrical equipment used in power generation, transmission & distribution. Having realized this vision, Dar Massader is now one of the leading companies in the Saudi market providing products and services for the power and renewable energy sector. Our approach of seeking synergetic solutions to our customer’s needs has enriched the quality of our ultimate goal – Customer Satisfaction. In fact, we owe our growth to the confidence with which our customers approach us for solutions.
Role Goals and Objectives:
Lead geotechnical and engineering geology investigations that support the engineering and design of
renewable energy, power infrastructure, and mining projects, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing
to determine subsurface conditions, soil and rock properties, and geohazards.
Prepare, review, and finalise comprehensive geotechnical and engineering geology reports that provide
analysis, findings, and design recommendations for foundations, earthworks, and infrastructure across
plant, substation, transmission, and mine site facilities.
Ensure all investigations, designs, and reporting meet local and international standards, client specifications, and regulatory and lender requirements applicable to renewable energy, power, and mining developments.
Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee comprehensive geotechnical field investigations for renewable energy, power, and mining sites, including borehole drilling, soil and rock sampling, and in-situ testing such as Standard Penetration Tests (SPT), Cone Penetration Tests (CPT), pull-out tests, and percolation tests.
- Define and manage ground investigation scopes and design studies across feasibility, FEED, and detailed design stages, ensuring the data collected is fit for the engineering design of plant foundations, substations, transmission structures, access roads, and mine infrastructure.
- Supervise geophysical surveys, including Electrical Resistivity Testing (ERT) and Seismic Refraction Tomography (SRT), to characterise subsurface conditions, define soil and rock profiles, and assess seismic and geohazard risk relevant to design.
- Implement and monitor site safety protocols, ensuring all field operations comply with environmental requirements and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and equivalent local regulations.
- Compile, interpret, and analyse field and laboratory test results, including thermal resistivity (relevant to buried cables and electrical earthing), earth pressure parameters, and soil and rock bearing capacity, and derive the geotechnical design parameters required by the engineering disciplines.
- Assess and recommend foundation types and depths (for example driven piles, cast-in-place concrete footings, and ground beams) for structures such as solar tracker piles, wind turbine and transformer foundations, and mine plant equipment, addressing conditions such as liquefaction potential, soil and slope stability, collapsible or expansive soils, and groundwater levels.
- Develop detailed engineering recommendations for foundation design, excavation, drainage, and backfill requirements, as well as shoring and slope strategies for deep, temporary, and permanent excavations, including mine cuts and benches where applicable.
- Ensure accurate documentation of methodologies, parameters, and findings in geotechnical and engineering geology reports, providing clear design recommendations, construction considerations, and risk notes for the design and project teams.
- Advise on the suitability of foundation options, such as driven steel piles, predrilled and grouted piles, or concrete foundations, including recommendations for compaction, earthwork, and ground improvement and soil modification techniques.
- Provide recommendations for excavation and grading practices, specifying soil compaction criteria and ensuring compliance with regulatory and project-specific guidelines.
- Identify and assess geohazards and ground risks relevant to the project, including seismicity, slope instability, sinkholes and karst, sabkha and collapsible soils, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures for design.
- Oversee the design and application of temporary and permanent lateral support systems, including shoring and retaining walls, for deep excavation sites with loose, sandy, or otherwise unstable soils.
- Lead a team of field technicians, geologists, and engineers, coordinating geotechnical work with project managers, design engineers, clients, and contractors to align activities with project-specific design and delivery requirements.
- Conduct training and provide guidance to team members on specialised field testing, safety compliance, and data interpretation and reporting procedures.
- Review all test results, including trial pile load testing, axial capacity tests, and pile extraction tests, ensuring accuracy and adherence to ASTM, AASHTO, Saudi, and other applicable regional standards.
- Implement quality control measures across field operations and reporting, confirming that data analysis, design parameters, and recommendations align with site-specific ground conditions and project requirements.
Skills and Attributes:
· Strong knowledge of geotechnical and engineering geology principles, including soil and rock mechanics,
foundation design, slope stability, and ground improvement.
· Proficiency in field testing and investigation techniques (SPT, CPT, ERT, SRT, and similar), and familiarity with
laboratory testing procedures.
· Demonstrated experience delivering geotechnical and engineering geology design studies for renewable
energy, power infrastructure, or mining projects across feasibility, FEED, and detailed design stages.
· Advanced skills in geotechnical analysis and design software (for example GeoStudio, PLAXIS, Settle3, or
similar) and in deriving design parameters from field and laboratory data.
· Excellent report writing, data interpretation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate design
recommendations clearly to multidisciplinary teams and clients.
Leadership and team management skills, with proven experience coordinating field and office activities across concurrent projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in geotechnical investigations and reporting, including hands-on involvement in engineering and design studies for renewable energy, power infrastructure, or mining projects.
- Proven track record of preparing and reviewing geotechnical design deliverables in an EPC or engineering consultancy environment, working alongside multidisciplinary design teams.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
- Strong familiarity with regional geological conditions and site investigation requirements, particularly in arid and semi-arid environments typical of Gulf renewable energy, power, and mining developments.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field assignments.
