Job Description We are hiring for our client – a growing company undergoing a major software modernization initiative – for a Senior React Frontend Developer to join their team. Location: Almere, Netherlands (Hybrid).

Position: Senior React Frontend Developer

About The Role Our client is in the midst of a major software modernization initiative – completely dismantling their legacy platform in favor of a scalable, modern ecosystem built on React, Next.js, and AWS. They are looking for a frontend engineer with a deep understanding of web fundamentals (native browser mechanics, DOM manipulation, complex state management, performance optimization), who will also lead the adoption of AI Spec-Driven Development (SDD) across the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Spearhead the legacy platform modernization – architect and lead the frontend rebuild into a modern React/Next.js environment
• Champion AI Spec-Driven Development – eliminate ad-hoc "vibe coding" in favor of structured AI workflows built on comprehensive specification frameworks
• Draft and maintain living specs – own the full SDD lifecycle: writing project constitutions, defining feature intent, translating requirements into technical architecture, and orchestrating AI implementation
• Design scalable, modular frontend architecture that integrates seamlessly with AWS infrastructure
• Act as the strategic gatekeeper for AI-generated code (Copilot, Claude, Gemini), ensuring it adheres strictly to specifications and enterprise-grade quality standards
• Mentor and upskill mid-level engineers – both in elite React patterns and spec-first AI development methodology

Profile / Requirements Core Requirements (Critical):

• 🚨 Expertise in React and AI Spec-Driven Development – hands-on experience (or deep theoretical mastery) of spec kits and spec-first methodologies; ability to lock in constraints, edge cases, and architecture before any AI-generated code is produced
• 🚨 Leadership & Team Enablement – proven track record of leading from the front, with the communication skills to mentor and elevate the entire engineering team
• 5+ years of experience – unrivaled expertise in React, modern JavaScript/TypeScript, and Next.js; deep mastery of performance optimization, complex state management, and web fundamentals
• Migration mastery – battle-tested experience breaking down and migrating large legacy monoliths into modern, component-driven architecture
• Systems thinking – pragmatic, architectural mindset; understanding of AI as an execution engine, with the human engineer providing the master blueprint

Nice To Have

• Strong familiarity with deploying containerized or serverless frontend applications on AWS
• Knowledge of or experience with microfrontend architectures (Webpack Module Federation, single-spa)
• Familiarity or hands-on experience with React Native for cross-platform mobile development
