Description

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Android Developer with strong native Android experience in Java. The role is suited for someone who can build reliable mobile features, work with Android platform APIs, debug on real devices, and handle real-time data from sensors, location, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, and other device-level sources.

The ideal candidate should be practical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working on features where data may be noisy, delayed, stale, or device-dependent. This is not only a UI development role; it requires platform-level Android thinking, strong debugging habits, and the ability to improve behaviour through testing, logs, and real-device validation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain native Android features using Java, Android Studio, Gradle, and standard Android development practices.
  • Work with Android lifecycle, permissions, services, foreground/background behaviour, receivers, timers, callbacks, and resource cleanup.
  • Build real-time mobile features involving sensors, location, movement tracking, device APIs, maps, and continuously changing data.
  • Integrate with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, location, SensorManager, and other Android platform or hardware-related APIs where required.
  • Process and validate noisy or unreliable data streams using practical logic such as smoothing, confidence checks, stale-data handling, jump rejection, and fallback states.
  • Debug issues on actual Android devices using Logcat, Android Studio tools, crash logs, profiling, reproducible test cases, and device-specific investigation.
  • Optimize application performance, battery usage, responsiveness, memory management, and background execution behaviour.
  • Write clean, modular, maintainable code that can be safely integrated into an existing codebase.
  • Collaborate with backend, frontend/cross-platform, QA, and product teams to deliver stable mobile features.
  • Document technical assumptions, edge cases, debugging findings, and implementation decisions clearly.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2–4 years of hands-on Android development experience, preferably with native Android using Java.
  • Strong understanding of Android fundamentals including Activity/Fragment lifecycle, services, BroadcastReceivers, permissions, threading, and background execution limits.
  • Practical experience with Java in Android projects, including clean code structure, error handling, interfaces/classes, callbacks/listeners, and maintainable module design.
  • Experience debugging Android applications on real devices, not only emulators.
  • Understanding of runtime permissions for location, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi/device APIs, and graceful handling of denied or unavailable permissions.
  • Ability to work with asynchronous flows, delayed responses, API timeouts, retries, and failure states.
  • Good understanding of REST APIs, JSON, authentication flows, and mobile-backend integration.
  • Awareness of memory leaks, listener cleanup, long-running callbacks, battery impact, UI jank, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Comfortable using Git and working in an existing team codebase.

Good to Have

  • Kotlin knowledge or ability to read and modify Kotlin code when required.
  • Hands-on exposure to Android sensors such as accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, orientation, or barometer.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, scanning APIs, device capability checks, and Android OS restrictions.
  • Experience with maps, live marker movement, tracking, navigation, positioning, or route-related mobile features.
  • Basic understanding of data filtering concepts such as moving average, median filter, low-pass filtering, confidence scoring, outlier rejection, and smoothing-vs-lag trade-offs.
  • Experience creating or maintaining React Native native Android modules.
  • Exposure to Firebase Crashlytics, analytics, logs, performance profiling, or similar mobile observability tools.
