Job description

Primary objective:

National Identity Associate teachers make the education of their students their first concern and are accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct. National Identity Associate teachers encourage student’s participation in classroom and school activities and assist the teacher with educational programmes. They make the safeguarding and well-being of all students their number one priority and follow the school’s statutory policies.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Establish and maintain a safe and stimulating environment for students.
  • Prepare classroom material and supplies such as bulletin boards, duplication of material, etc. as required by the teacher.
  • Support all teachers utilizing small groups or whole class instruction.
  • Effectively use translanguaging strategies to maintain bilingualism in all areas of the curriculum.
  • Provide cover of lessons, CCAPS and duties when required.
  • Be aware of the physical and emotional well-being of pupils and the need to respond to particular situations.
  • Be aware of and effectively implement emergency and evacuation procedures as required.
  • Be fully aware of the school’s health and safety policies.
  • Attend and participate in training days, weekly staff meetings and also on other occasions other meetings when required.
  • Supervise playtimes and lunchtimes when required.
  • Promote the subject(s) within the school and provide co-curricular opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and team to support.
  • Provide support inside and outside the classroom, including supporting access to camps, educational visits, and whole school activities, to enable students to fully participate in activities.
  • Performs other duties and assumes accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed-upon objectives.
  • To support the teacher in no more than 25 lessons per week as directed by the Junior School Principal.
  • Undertake additional duties as and when required by the line manager.

Safeguarding:

  • The post holder will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow the school’s safeguarding policies and the staff code of conduct. They will directly support the Designated Safeguarding Lead as a priority to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students at the school.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Experience:

  • +2 years’ experience in Junior Schools.
  • Experience in working with students who have a variety of learning, social and psychological needs.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Ability to adapt and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Ability to set high expectations to inspire, motivate and challenge the students.
  • IT proficiency including all Microsoft and google office tools Microsoft office and google suite.
  • Able to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
