Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide legal counsel partnering with the business and uphold the highest standards of integrity within ABB. Each day, you will ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards. You will also showcase your expertise by effectively managing legal risks and fostering a culture of integrity across the organization.

The work model for the role is: onsite/hybrid

This role is contributing to the Legal and Integrity support for Smart Buildings Division. Main stakeholders are marketing and sales and supply chain function in the Netherlands, identifying risks and opportunities to the company, proactively and propose appropriate strategies.

Provide L&I support and strategic advice in the Netherlands in connection to Electrification Business, in close coordination with the Division General Counsels and Division Multi-Country Lead Counsels, by providing pragmatic, business-oriented advice and risk assessment for a broad range of legal matters.

Reviewing and negotiating contracts, drafting commercial agreements and other contractual terms in collaboration with relevant business stakeholders and team members. Participate in risk assessments and provide legal recommendations, supporting public tenders and special projects, in particular related to datacenter business.

Occupy a seat at the table on local strategic business matters to anticipate future business and legal opportunities and challenges, developing appropriate strategies to address them.

Support in your area of accountability within the country, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) / divestiture transactions (including structuring, drafting, and negotiation).

Support implementation of ABB policies, to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable local laws, implementing training initiatives to promote adherence to legal standards and Integrity compliance.

Support in anticipating future business and legal opportunities and challenges, developing appropriate strategies to address them. Assess integrity risks associated with business opportunities and transactions and support in implementing risk mitigation strategies in accordance with the third-party management procedure (TPM).

Manage litigations, arbitrations, serving as the primary liaison with external counsel when required. Oversee the resolution of legal disputes, including settlements and negotiations, to minimize risk and financial exposure. Develop strategies to avoid disputes and proactively address potential legal conflicts.

Support the Business Area Labor & Employment counsel with local expertise, advising on labor-employment law matters, including hiring/termination, discrimination claims. Oversee compliance with labor laws across local jurisdiction.

Digital agreements and business model (Software as a Service), cyber security, AI and trade compliance matters expertise.

Qualifications for the role

LLM-degree obtained in the Netherlands.

6-8 years PQE

“Hands-on” business partner attitude with a solution-oriented mindset, in particular coordinating with cross-functional and cross-country teams in complex transactions.

Superior advocacy and communication skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in writing and orally, an aptitude for practical negotiation, the capability to think clearly and quickly under pressure, the composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests and ability to share lessons learned with teammates.

The highest integrity and professionalism, and passion for excellence and quality.

Ability to work in complex international environment, experience working with different cultures and an open mind which champions diversity and inclusion.

Fluent in Dutch. Professional proficiency in English.

Law firm experience (desirable).

Experience in an engineering or industrial sector (desirable).
