Job Summary

Job Title: Ab Initio Metadata Hub SME — Data Cataloging & Management

Experience: 8–12 years (minimum 3 years hands-on with Ab Initio Metadata Hub / EME)

Location: Onsite — Netherlands (Amsterdam)

Start: Immediate; ability to onboard within 4–6 weeks of selection

Job Summary

HCLTech is seeking an experienced Ab Initio Metadata Hub SME to drive Data Cataloging and Metadata Management for a large-scale Data Marketplace programme at a leading European bank. The role centres on the design, configuration, and governance of the Ab Initio Metadata Hub — establishing end-to-end data lineage, business glossaries, data catalogs, and data quality frameworks that connect technical data assets to business context. You will work directly with client data stewards, architects, and governance teams in an onsite, client-facing capacity.

Key Responsibilities

Metadata Hub Architecture: Design, configure, and administer the Ab Initio Metadata Hub ecosystem to support enterprise-wide data cataloging, lineage, and governance.

Lineage Automation: Build automated pipelines to harvest, ingest, and stitch metadata from Ab Initio EME, databases, cloud data platforms, and BI/reporting tools into complete end-to-end lineage views.

Data Cataloging & Glossary: Define and maintain business glossaries, data catalogs, and data classification structures; customize Metadata Hub UI, schemas, and workflows to support stewardship operations and access controls.

Data Quality: Implement data profiling and data quality rules and integrate DQ results into the metadata layer for transparency and monitoring.

Governance & Stakeholders: Partner with data governance councils, compliance, and business units to translate governance and regulatory requirements into production-ready metadata models.

SME Leadership: Act as the subject-matter authority on metadata management — set standards and best practices, conduct reviews, and coach data engineers on metadata-driven development.

Performance & Support: Optimize the metadata repository, query performance, and indexing for responsiveness at enterprise scale; provide production support for the Metadata Hub environment.

Required Skills

8–12 years in data engineering, metadata management, or data governance, with 3+ years dedicated to Ab Initio Metadata Hub and/or Enterprise Meta Environment (EME).

Strong proficiency across the Ab Initio ecosystem: GDE, Co >Operating System, EME, Metadata Hub, and exposure to Express >It, Plan >It / Conduct >It, and Query >It.

Deep understanding of data lineage (technical and business), business glossaries, data profiling, data catalogs, and metadata schema customization.

Strong SQL and Unix/Linux shell scripting skills.

Proven experience implementing data governance or cataloging initiatives in large, complex enterprise environments.

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills for a client-facing, onsite role.

Preferred Skills

Experience in Banking / Financial Services, ideally with regulatory data frameworks such as BCBS 239, GDPR, or DORA.

Exposure to enterprise data catalog / governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Purview) and integrating them with Ab Initio metadata.

Experience integrating Metadata Hub with cloud ecosystems (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake).

Ab Initio certifications.

Agile/Scrum delivery experience in globally distributed teams.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

What We Look For

A metadata and data governance specialist — not primarily an ETL developer — who can bridge technical infrastructure and business intelligence.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, standards-driven approach.

Ability to operate independently onsite with client stakeholders and represent HCLTech as a trusted advisor.
