Job description

GINGR Communications (Manager)

Location Berlin (largely office based)

Start: as soon as possible

1. Background

The Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) is a unique collaboration of NGOs and TSOs from across Europe,

engaging in an ‘energy transition ecosystem-of-actors’. We promote fair, transparent, sustainable grid

development to enable the growth of renewables and achieve full decarbonisation in line with the Paris

Agreement. GINGR is a joint initiative of RGI and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It

aims to facilitate Nature- and People-Positive renewable energy and grid deployment by establishing an

industry-supported, government-endorsed monitoring and reporting framework at a global scale. See

GINGR.org for more details.

RGI is now looking for an experienced Communications Manager to join the GINGR Team, working as part of a

dynamic, international group that bridges sectors and cultures. The successful candidate will fit well into our

team of smart, driven, and creative individuals, and will be comfortable bridging divides between the

corporate and non-governmental world.

2. Your Role

As GINGR Communications Manager, you will help shape and deliver GINGR's strategic communications,

translating its work and ambitions into compelling narratives, creative campaigns and events for international

audiences. You will take ownership of key communications projects and campaigns, including

communications around GINGR's upcoming global Challenge, and through this work help strengthen

GINGR's profile among industry, governments, civil society and other key stakeholders. You will closely work

with the GINGR team and the RGI communication team

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Communications Strategy: Reviewing and evolving GINGR's existing communications strategy in line

with the initiative's development, and translating it into actionable plans and clear messages, and

communications activities for different audiences.

  • Campaigns: Developing and coordinating communications campaigns around key GINGR priorities,

work areas and milestones, including the upcoming GINGR Challenge, from campaign concept and

messaging through to implementation across channels and formats.

  • Content & Editorial Direction: Leading the development of key communications content and ensuring

consistent messaging and editorial quality across all of GINGR's digital channels, publications and

communications materials, working with others on day-to-day delivery.

  • Project Management: Taking ownership of communications projects from concept to delivery,

coordinating colleagues, partners, external suppliers, commercials, timelines and deliverables.

  • Events: Co-leading the planning, communications and delivery of major GINGR events (e.g. launches,

conferences, webinars, workshops, etc.) and ensuring they support GINGR's strategic objectives.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to RGI's Other Work and Initiatives: Supporting the wider RGI Communications Team

and contributing to cross-cutting communications activities as needed.

13. Your Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for an experienced, strategic and creative communications professional who combines

initiative and sound judgement with a collaborative, team-oriented approach. You will be a self-starter, a

team-player, comfortable taking full delivery ownership of projects, managing junior colleagues while working

closely and constructively with other colleagues in GINGR and RGI with different roles and areas of expertise.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • An academic background in communications, media, political science, energy/environmental studies

or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • A minimum five years of relevant professional experience in communications, preferably in an

international environment.

  • Demonstrable experience developing and implementing communications strategies and campaigns,

from concept and messaging through to delivery.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear and

engaging communications for different audiences.

  • Strong editorial judgement and an understanding of how to adapt messages and content across

different communications channels. Strong project management skills, with experience coordinating

communications projects, events or campaigns involving multiple contributors.

  • A collaborative and team-oriented approach, with the ability to take ownership while working

constructively and respectfully with colleagues across different roles and levels of experience.

Desirable attributes:

  • Knowledge of or experience working on renewable energy, climate, nature and/or

environmental/sustainability topics.

  • Experience working in an international or multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Familiarity with digital communications tools and platforms, such as WordPress, Mailchimp and social

media management tools.

Note: Candidates must already hold a valid work permit for Germany. Knowledge of German is desirable but

not essential, as GINGR is a global programme.

4. What We Offer

nature and people.

  • A highly international, interdisciplinary and collaborative team, with opportunities for learning and

professional development.
