Job description

Role Purpose

Design and realise the electrical power, drive and control systems for X-Laboratory’s offshore motion compensation and maritime robotics equipment. You will take systems from electrical architecture and component selection through detailed EPLAN engineering, cabinet manufacturing, FAT and commissioning .

We are looking for a practical electrical engineer with strong experience in industrial cabinets, high-power electrical drives and machinery automation .

Responsibilities: What you do

  • design electrical power, drive and control architectures for winches, actuator systems and other mechatronic machinery
  • independently engineer complete electrical cabinets and systems in EPLAN
  • produce electrical schematics, cabinet layouts, terminal plans, cable schedules, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manufacturing documentation
  • dimension and select electrical components including protection devices, contactors, power supplies, filters, cabling and busbar systems
  • select and dimension industrial drive systems, particularly single- and multi-drive systems (ABB, Siemens, Danfoss), typically in the 100 kW+ class
  • integrate motors, drives, PLCs, safety systems, remote I/O, sensors and auxiliary equipment
  • configure and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems for integration and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
  • prepare technical packages for procurement and supervise electrical cabinet manufacturing
  • inspect completed cabinets and resolve manufacturing or integration issues
  • perform electrical power-up, drive configuration and system commissioning
  • lead/support FAT, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and, occasionally, commissioning at client or offshore locations
  • maintain controlled and accurate as-built electrical documentation

  • EPLAN Quality — complete, correct and manufacturable electrical documentation with minimal supplier clarification
  • Electrical Design Quality — correct dimensioning and selection of drives, protections, EMI compatibility, cabling, busbars and auxiliary components
  • Manufacturing Readiness — cabinet builders can manufacture released designs without avoidable redesign or missing information
  • First-Time Quality — minimise design-related wiring errors, non-conformances and rework
  • FAT Readiness — electrical systems are complete, correctly configured and ready for testing according to schedule
  • Commissioning Performance — systematic commissioning and effective root-cause resolution of electrical and drive-system problems
  • Configuration Control — drawings, BOMs, drive parameters and as-built configurations remain complete and traceable
  • Delivery — engineering, manufacturing support and commissioning delivered according to agreed project milestones

Competencies & Behaviours

  • excellent practical electrical engineering and EPLAN capability
  • strong understanding of industrial power distribution, drives and cabinet engineering
  • combines detailed engineering with a hands-on commissioning mentality
  • able to translate system requirements into complete, buildable electrical systems
  • systematic and effective in electrical troubleshooting
  • comfortable working directly with cabinet builders, suppliers and technicians
  • precise, independent and strongly focused on reliable real-world machinery
  • curious and willing to continuously learn new technologies, from hydraulic systems to liquid cooling and emerging drive architectures

Qualifications

Requirements

  • strong professional EPLAN experience
  • proven experience designing industrial electrical cabinets and control systems
  • experience selecting and dimensioning industrial electric drives and motors
  • sound knowledge of three-phase power systems, electrical protection, cabling and busbar systems
  • practical experience with PLC-based industrial automation and HMI systems
  • experience supporting cabinet manufacture, system integration, FAT and commissioning
  • ability to read, create and troubleshoot complex industrial electrical systems

Strong assets:

  • B.Sc./M.Sc./HBO in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics or equivalent professional background
  • ABB drive systems , including selection and commissioning of single- and multi-drive architectures
  • drive systems in the 100 kW+ power class
  • Siemens, Bachmann, Beckhoff and/or Schneider Electric PLC systems
  • Safety PLCs and industrial safety architectures
  • PROFINET, EtherCAT, CAN, Modbus TCP/IP and/or OPC UA
  • hydraulic drives, hydraulic power units and electro-hydraulic machinery
  • liquid/water-cooled drives and high-power electrical systems
  • offshore, maritime, shipbuilding, cranes, winches, lifting equipment or comparable heavy machinery
  • FAT, SAT and field/offshore commissioning experience
