Job description

School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology (SEAST) at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support undergraduate teaching laboratories serving the Mechatronics Engineering and Power and Renewable Energy Engineering programs within the Department of Electrical Engineering. This is a full-time position, reporting to the Dean or Chair of Electrical Engineering. The post is central to ensuring safe laboratory operations, reliable equipment performance, accreditation readiness, and high-quality student learning experiences, while enabling academic staff to focus on teaching, supervision, and research activities.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Formal training, or demonstrated experience, in laboratory or technical support roles is required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with electrical and mechatronics laboratory equipment is essential.
  • Applicants should have working knowledge of one or more of the following areas, robotics and automation systems, renewable energy systems including solar, wind, and energy storage, smart factory systems, PLCs and industrial control systems, and power electronics and electrical machines.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices,
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and system-level issues,
  • Effective organisational and communication skills are required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage laboratory inventory, consumables, and equipment records.
  • Prepare, set up, and test laboratory experiments for scheduled teaching sessions.
  • Provide technical assistance during laboratory classes, demonstrations, and workshops.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring consistent performance and safe operation.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and accreditation requirements, supporting audits and continuous improvement activities as needed.
  • Support student projects, capstone activities, and applied research when required, including guidance on safe use of equipment and systems.

Teaching Areas

Laboratory support will span key applied areas aligned to the department’s laboratory-intensive programs, including electromechanical systems and mechatronics, industrial automation and PLC-based control, robotics and automation training platforms, power electronics and electrical machines laboratory benches, and renewable energy and smart energy systems trainers. The Laboratory Technician will contribute to effective preparation, delivery support, and continuous improvement of scheduled laboratory sessions, demonstrations, and workshops.

Research Focus

The successful candidate will support applied, practice-based activities that enhance student outcomes and strengthen departmental capability, including capstone projects, design projects, and faculty-led applied research activities when required. The role will contribute to safe experimentation, dependable laboratory infrastructure, and robust technical documentation practices that support quality assurance and accreditation expectations.
