Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Female Consultant Gastroenterologist with advanced expertise in ERCP to join a leading healthcare organization in Abu Dhabi.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive gastroenterology services with a particular focus on advanced endoscopy and ERCP, managing complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic disorders and working closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant-level assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic disorders.
  • Perform advanced endoscopic procedures, with a strong focus on ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography).
  • Perform and interpret:
    • Diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP
    • Biliary and pancreatic sphincterotomy
    • Biliary and pancreatic stent placement and removal
    • Stone extraction and management of bile duct obstruction
    • Management of benign and malignant biliary strictures
    • Endoscopic management of pancreatic duct disorders
  • Perform advanced upper and lower GI endoscopy, including:
    • Gastroscopy / OGD
    • Colonoscopy
    • Endoscopic biopsy and polypectomy
    • Hemostasis procedures
    • PEG placement where appropriately trained
  • Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, liver and biliary disorders, pancreatic disease, and other complex GI conditions.
  • Evaluate patients for advanced endoscopic intervention and determine appropriate treatment pathways.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary management of complex hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal cases.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, interventional radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, and other specialists.
  • Provide appropriate pre-procedure counselling and obtain informed consent.
  • Ensure safe sedation, infection control, and adherence to endoscopy safety protocols.
  • Manage post-procedure complications and provide appropriate follow-up.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, research, and continuing medical education.
  • Support teaching and mentoring of residents, fellows, and junior medical staff.

Required Qualifications

  • MBBS, MBChB, MD, or equivalent medical degree.
  • Recognized postgraduate qualification in Gastroenterology / Internal Medicine with Gastroenterology specialization.
  • Advanced fellowship or formal training in ERCP / Therapeutic Endoscopy / Interventional Gastroenterology is highly desirable.
  • Recognized Board Certification or equivalent specialist qualification.
  • Valid UAE professional license or eligibility for licensing in Abu Dhabi.

Experience

  • Significant post-specialty experience at Consultant level in Gastroenterology.
  • Strong documented experience performing ERCP independently.
  • Demonstrated competency in therapeutic ERCP and management of complex biliary and pancreatic conditions.
  • Strong experience in diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy.
  • Experience in a tertiary-care hospital or advanced endoscopy centre is preferred.
  • Experience managing complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic cases is highly desirable.
