Job description
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified and compassionate Consultant in Palliative Care to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive palliative and supportive care services to patients with life-limiting illnesses, focusing on symptom management, quality of life enhancement, and psychosocial support for patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients requiring palliative and end-of-life care.
- Develop individualized treatment and symptom management plans for patients with advanced or chronic illnesses.
- Provide expert consultation for pain management and complex symptom control.
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, including oncology, internal medicine, critical care, nursing, psychology, social work, and rehabilitation services.
- Conduct family meetings and facilitate goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and end-of-life decision-making.
- Ensure continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, home care, and hospice settings where applicable.
Leadership & Quality Improvement
- Participate in the development and implementation of palliative care policies, protocols, and clinical pathways.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
- Support the growth and development of palliative care services within the organization.
Education & Training
- Provide teaching and mentorship to physicians, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME), conferences, and departmental educational activities.
- Promote awareness of palliative care principles among healthcare providers and the community.
Research & Professional Development
- Participate in clinical research, audits, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Maintain professional competency and comply with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Completion of accredited specialty training in Palliative Medicine or related specialty with recognized fellowship/subspecialty certification in Palliative Care.
- Board Certification recognized by the Department of Health (DOH) Abu Dhabi.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-board/fellowship experience as a Consultant in Palliative Care.
- Eligibility for DOH Abu Dhabi Consultant licensure.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and multidisciplinary team collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in tertiary care hospitals, cancer centers, or dedicated palliative care units.
- Expertise in pain management, oncology supportive care, and end-of-life care.
- Experience in service development and quality improvement projects.
