Mechanical Engineer – Industrial Refrigeration & HVAC

Location: UAE
Industry: F&V Cold Storage / 3PL / FMCG / Food Distribution

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong expertise in HVAC and Industrial Refrigeration systems to support the operation, maintenance, reliability and development of our cold storage facilities.

Job Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliable, safe and energy-efficient operation of all industrial refrigeration, HVAC and associated mechanical systems within the cold store.

The role will also support preventive maintenance, breakdown troubleshooting, equipment reliability, cold-store expansion, installation, commissioning and project activation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems across cold-store facilities.
• Ensure chilled and frozen rooms maintain required temperature and humidity conditions.
• Monitor and troubleshoot compressors, condensers, evaporators, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors and associated mechanical equipment.
• Investigate temperature fluctuations, refrigeration failures and recurring equipment breakdowns.
• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions for repeated failures.
• Support installation, testing and commissioning of cold rooms, HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
• Review mechanical drawings, technical specifications, equipment layouts and contractor proposals.
• Support cold-store construction, expansion and warehouse activation projects.
• Coordinate with refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, civil and other contractors.
• Monitor energy consumption and recommend improvements to refrigeration and HVAC efficiency.
• Maintain critical spare-parts requirements and equipment maintenance history.
• Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, Permit-to-Work and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Maintain technical records, breakdown reports, preventive maintenance records and project documentation.
• Ensure minimum equipment downtime in a 24/7 cold-store operation.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5–8 years of relevant Mechanical Engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems.
• Experience in any of the following will be strongly preferred:
• Cold-storage facilities
• Temperature-controlled warehouses
• 3PL logistics
• FMCG
• Fruits & Vegetables
• Food distribution
• Food-processing facilities
• E-commerce cold-chain operations
• UAE cold-store experience is preferred.
• Experience in cold-store construction, commissioning, expansion or warehouse activation projects will be a major advantage.
• Experience managing refrigeration/HVAC contractors and troubleshooting critical breakdowns is preferred.
• Exposure to Ammonia, Freon/HFC or similar industrial refrigeration systems will be advantageous.

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Certification or technical training in HVAC, Refrigeration or Industrial Cooling preferred.
• PMP or equivalent Project Management certification will be an advantage.
• Industrial refrigeration or refrigerant-safety certification will be advantageous.

Preferred Candidate:
A hands-on engineer who has worked in an operational cold-store environment and understands the importance of maintaining uninterrupted refrigeration in a 24/7 temperature-controlled operation.

Candidates with UAE cold-store, 3PL and cold-store project experience will be given preference.
