Job description

Are you analytical, curious and interested in safety, compliance and technology? As an HSE & Compliance Officer, you will help Octatube deliver exceptional architectural projects across the United Kingdom safely, compliantly and with the future in mind.

About Octatube

At Octatube, we create smart and innovative solutions for complex and specialised architectural constructions, such as the glass entrance building of the Van Gogh Museum and the cable net façade of the Markthal in Rotterdam. With our design & build approach, we manage projects in-house from technical design and detailing to production, installation, and maintenance.

We provide equal opportunities to all job applicants and strive for an open, safe culture where diverse talent can grow and feel at home. Transparency, integrity, and respect in our collaboration with colleagues, clients, and partners are fundamental to us.

The role

Delivering exceptional architecture takes more than innovative engineering and smart design. Behind every project is a complex landscape of legislation, safety requirements and quality standards.

As our portfolio of projects in the United Kingdom continues to grow, so do the requirements surrounding health and safety compliance. That's why we continuously invest in the knowledge, management systems and processes that enable us to keep safely delivering exceptional architectural projects for years to come.

In this role, you will ensure that knowledge of legislation and compliance requirements is accessible, practical and easy for colleagues to apply. You will contribute to the development of our knowledge management framework and ISO 45001 management system, translate regulatory developments into practical guidance, and help implement training, procedures, and knowledge sharing resources across the organisation.

You will work closely with our policy officer, project managers, engineers, designers and other specialists within our Design & Build organisation. Together, you will help ensure that innovative architectural projects are delivered safely, compliantly and in a future-proof manner.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career professional looking to develop expertise in health and safety, compliance and organisational development within an international technical environment.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain a knowledge platform that gives colleagues quick access to relevant regulatory information and compliance resources for key topics like health and safety.
  • Develop and organise training sessions and knowledge-sharing initiatives on HSE and compliance topics for teams across the business.
  • Identify recurring risks and opportunities for improvement and contribute to the ongoing development of our ISO 45001 management system.
  • Research UK and Dutch legislation and regulatory requirements and help translate complex obligations into practical tools and guidance for colleagues.
  • Support the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, working methods and other compliance-related documentation.
  • Help coordinate documentation and evidence required for certifications such as Constructionline Gold and SSIP.
  • Monitor developments in UK health, safety and environmental legislation and ensure relevant knowledge is shared throughout the organisation.
  • Help shape a growing team and contribute to new initiatives in safety, compliance and knowledge management.

What you'll bring

  • A Master's degree in a relevant discipline, such as Law, Safety Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Sustainability or Governance, or a Bachelor's degree combined with 1-2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong research skills and the ability to quickly understand and navigate regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills combined with a structured, proactive approach to work and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working with colleagues from different disciplines.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, SharePoint and document management systems.
  • It Would Be Great If You Also Have
  • An interest in the construction, engineering or architectural sector.
  • Knowledge of health, safety or environmental management systems.
  • Familiarity with UK and/or Dutch health, safety or environmental legislation.
  • Dutch language skills at a minimum of B2 level.
  • A valid EU work permit.

What you'll get

  • A gross monthly salary between €3,351 and €4,449, depending on your knowledge and experience.
  • Opportunities to develop yourself through training courses, professional development programmes and certifications.
  • The flexibility to work from home by mutual agreement, including a net home-working allowance of €2.45 per working day.
  • A smartphone with a company mobile subscription.
  • 38 days of annual leave based on a full-time contract of 40 hours per week (in addition to public holidays).
  • An 8% holiday allowance.
  • Convenient travel to our office through our cycle-to-work scheme, NS Business Card or mileage reimbursement.
  • Automatic salary progression within your pay scale, without the need for annual performance ratings.
  • An international working environment where architecture, engineering and innovation come together.
  • Plenty of scope for initiative, responsibility and personal development.
  • A supportive team, an informal working atmosphere and regular social activities with colleagues.
  • And, of course, plenty of challenge and enjoyment along the way!
