You will navigate rigorous governance frameworks, manage diverse senior stakeholders (from pilots to software architects), and flawlessly execute software releases through the Route to LIVE (RTL) pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Delivery & Lifecycle Management
- End-to-End Execution: Own the planning, execution, monitoring, and closing of IT projects within Flight Operations (e.g., flight planning, weight & balance, fuel optimization) and Crew Operations (e.g., pairing, rostering, tracking, fatigue management).
- Technical Roadmap Alignment: Translate operational business needs into technical requirements, working closely with enterprise architects, developers, and third-party vendors.
- Scope & Risk Control: Proactively manage project scope, identify technical dependencies, mitigate operational risks, and resolve blockers to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery without disrupting daily airline operations.
2. Governance & Route to LIVE (RTL) Execution
- Release Governance: Ensure all IT modifications strictly adhere to internal corporate and IT governance, cybersecurity policies, and aviation regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, EASA, GCAA).
- Environment & Release Pathing: Oversee the progression of code through standard environments (UAT, Pre-Production) up to Production, ensuring automated testing, rollback plans, and smoke tests are verified.
- Change Management (CAB): Author comprehensive change records and present upcoming deployments at Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings, defending the technical readiness and risk mitigation strategies of your projects.
3. Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Bridging Two Worlds: Act as the primary liaison between highly specialized technical teams (DevOps, Data Engineers, Network Security) and operational business units (Flight Operations, Crew Scheduling, Fleet).
- Steering Committees: Prepare and present regular, high-impact status reports, budget updates, and risk matrices to management and steering committees.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Domain Expertise:
- Minimum of 5+ years of Project Management experience specifically within an Airline or Aviation IT environment .
- Deep functional understanding of Flight Operations systems (e.g., AIRCOM, Lido, Jeppesen) or Crew Management solutions (e.g., AIMS, Jeppesen Crew Management).
- Familiarity with aviation operational realities, such as crew duty limitations (FTL regulations) and real-time operational control disruptions.
- Readiness to learn about new functional domains
IT Technical Know-How:
- Solid understanding of modern IT architectures, including cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure), microservices, API integrations, and data pipelines.
- Familiarity with CI/CD deployment pipelines, automated testing tools, and database environments (SQL/NoSQL).
- Experience implementing strict cybersecurity protocols and data privacy guidelines.
Governance & Process:
- Proven track record navigating formalized Route to LIVE (RTL) deployment pathways and environment management.
- Expertise in working with IT Service Management (ITSM) frameworks like ITIL for change, incident, and release management.
- Proficiency with project management and development collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, MS Project, ServiceNow, SmartSheet).
Leadership & Interpersonal:
- Exceptional stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the ability to build consensus among diverse, opinionated teams.
- Strong crisis management skills; calm under pressure when technical issues threaten operational timelines.
- Certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum (CSM, PMI-ACP), or SAFe are highly desirable.
