Job description

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Consultant in Infectious Diseases to join a leading healthcare institution in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical care for adult patients with complex infectious diseases, contribute to infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship programs, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, treat, and manage a broad spectrum of infectious diseases including bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections.
  • Manage complex cases such as sepsis, HIV, tuberculosis, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, and hospital-acquired infections.
  • Lead and support antimicrobial stewardship programs to optimize antibiotic use.
  • Collaborate with ICU, internal medicine, surgery, and microbiology teams for integrated patient care.
  • Provide consultation services for inpatient and outpatient infectious disease cases.
  • Participate in infection prevention and control initiatives and outbreak management.
  • Ensure compliance with DOH Abu Dhabi regulations, hospital protocols, and international clinical guidelines.
  • Contribute to teaching, training, audits, research, and continuous quality improvement programs.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by DOH Abu Dhabi.
  • Board Certification / Fellowship in Infectious Diseases (American Board, UK CCT, Canadian Board, or equivalent).
  • Valid DOH Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Infectious Diseases.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of post-specialist experience in a tertiary care or academic hospital.
  • Strong experience in managing complex infectious disease cases and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in outbreak management and hospital infection control programs.
  • Exposure to ICU infectious disease consultation.
  • Research publications in infectious diseases are an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, high-acuity clinical environment.
