Job description
Position: Production Engineer – Joinery & Fit-Out
Location: Umm Al Quwain, UAE
We are looking for an experienced Production Engineer to join our team in the joinery and fit-out industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating production activities, ensuring projects are manufactured according to approved drawings and specifications, and maintaining quality, productivity, and delivery schedules.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily production activities to ensure efficient and timely completion of joinery projects.
- Prepare and monitor production planning, cutting lists, material requirements, and production schedules.
- Coordinate with the Technical, Estimation, Procurement, and Production teams to ensure smooth workflow.
- Review shop drawings, technical drawings, specifications, and production requirements before manufacturing.
- Ensure production is carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project requirements.
- Monitor production progress, manpower utilization, machine capacity, and material availability.
- Identify and resolve production issues and coordinate with the Production Manager and Line Managers when required.
- Monitor the efficiency and productivity of workers and production lines.
- Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to ensure required materials are available for production.
- Monitor material consumption, wastage, and optimization to minimize production costs.
- Coordinate with the relevant departments regarding project priorities, deadlines, and changes in requirements.
- Ensure proper coordination between CNC, woodworking, assembly, sanding, polishing, painting, and finishing processes.
- Monitor machine and equipment performance and immediately report breakdowns or technical issues to the Maintenance Department.
- Ensure compliance with quality control procedures and manufacturing standards throughout the production process.
- Conduct regular follow-up on production targets, pending jobs, and delivery schedules.
- Maintain proper production records, reports, and documentation.
- Ensure a safe working environment and compliance with company safety procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, quality, and production efficiency.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Wood Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in joinery or woodworking manufacturing, preferably in a Production Engineer or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of joinery manufacturing processes, including:
- CNC operations
- Woodworking machinery
- Veneer and laminates
- Solid wood
- MDF and plywood
- Cabinet and furniture production
- Edge banding and machining
- Sanding and polishing
- Painting and finishing works
- Strong understanding of production planning, scheduling, capacity planning, and workflow management.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, cutting lists, and production specifications.
- Strong knowledge of quality control and joinery manufacturing standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and ERP/MRP production systems.
- Ability to manage multiple production requirements and meet strict project deadlines.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced joinery manufacturing environment.
- Experience in high-end joinery, luxury interiors, furniture, and fit-out production.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and quality management systems.
- Experience working with project-based production and customized joinery.
- Strong knowledge of production costing, material optimization, productivity improvement, and waste reduction.
Preferred Experience
Experience in wooden doors, wardrobes, kitchens, cabinets, furniture, HPL works, lockers, wall paneling, and other custom joinery/fit-out works will be an advantage.
