Job Title: Engineer, Geotechnical
Reporting to: Superintendent, Mine
Business Unit / Function: BMNM
Department: Mine Planning Drilling & Blasting
Why This Role Matters
The Engineer, Geotechnical supports geotechnical engineering activities by conducting field investigations, collecting and testing geotechnical data, contributing to analysis and design, and providing technical input to manage ground conditions, hazards, and risks in mining operations.
What You Will Deliver
Field Investigation and Testing
-
Conduct field investigations and surveys, including geological mapping, soil sampling, rock core logging, and groundwater monitoring, to assess ground conditions and identify hazards and risks.

Perform in-situ and laboratory tests on soil and rock samples using specialized equipment and techniques to determine geotechnical properties and behavior.

Maintain and calibrate geotechnical equipment and instrumentation to provide accurate and reliable monitoring data. Analysis and Engineering Support

Analyze and interpret geotechnical data, including slope stability, rock mass characterization, and groundwater modeling, and contribute to design recommendations and risk assessments.

Provide technical support for slope stability assessments, foundation design, mine waste management, ground control measures, and the development of mitigation solutions.

Prepare geotechnical reports, technical documents, presentations, figures, charts, and diagrams to communicate findings and recommendations. Collaboration, Safety and Improvement

Collaborate with geotechnical engineers, mining engineers, and environmental specialists to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine planning, design, and operations.

Adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines in all geotechnical activities.

Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians, interns, and field assistants on geotechnical techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.

Maintain awareness of industry practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement of geotechnical processes and standards. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor degree or technical certification in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field; a bachelor degree in geotechnical engineering or equivalent is preferred. Experience

3-5 years of experience in geotechnical fieldwork, laboratory testing, and data analysis, preferably within the mining or construction industry.

Experience conducting geotechnical field investigations, including site reconnaissance, soil sampling, rock core logging, instrumentation installation, and using geotechnical equipment and tools. Skills That Matter

Proficiency in geotechnical software applications, including slope stability analysis, finite element analysis, and groundwater modeling tools.

Ability to analyze and interpret geotechnical data and results.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in data collection, testing, and documentation.
