We are currently looking for a IP Counsel (m/f/d) for our Cologne based Office.

Job responsibilities

The IP Counsel protects and defends RIMOWA’s intellectual assets, including trademarks, designs, and copyrights. The role focuses on brand protection, anti-counterfeiting, and risk management to preserve brand value and innovation. In addition, the role provides legal expertise on IP-related commercial contracts and business arrangements. Your main tasks will be:

• Brand Protection / Anti-Counterfeiting: Manage and support the implementation of enforcement actions against third‑party IP infringements in collaboration with local internal and external resources, particularly online (online platforms and social media networks); contribute to the planning and execution of customs interventions and authority‑led enforcement activities related to IP infringements; oversee IP infringement litigation and enforcement strategies; manage disputes with external counsel and authorities.
• Contract & Commercial Advisory: Draft, review and negotiate IP-related commercial agreements (e.g., agreements with photographers and other creatives, marketing agencies and collaboration partners); provide legal advice on day-to-day commercial operations and business initiatives.
• IP Assessments & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with global IP laws and treaties; assess and mitigate IP risks in business operations, e.g. in marketing activities (such as influencer marketing).
• Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with product/design, R&D, marketing, and brand protection teams; collaborate with external IP counsel, authorities, and industry associations; train internal teams on IP awareness, IP contracts, and enforcement practices.

Profile

• Above-average law degree (preferably from German university, but comparable international law degrees also acceptable).
• 3+ years relevant professional experience in an industrial company; alternatively experience in a private law firm.
• Knowledge of IP law; experience in drafting IP-related contracts is a must.
• Ideally native German speaker. Business fluent written and spoken English. In addition, in-depth knowledge of French is an advantage.
• Hands-on mentality and solution-oriented thinking, creativity, initiative, excellent stakeholder management, thorough and efficient working style, strong communication skills, service orientation, and commitment.
• Strong understanding of economic relationships.
• Negotiation skills, confident, persuasive manner, and team spirit.
