Job description

Finance Manager / Financial Controller

24 hours per week | Hands-on finance role within a growing healthcare group

Are you an experienced Finance Manager or Financial Controller who enjoys taking a hands-on approach? Do you get satisfaction from professionalising a finance function, producing reliable management information and improving financial processes?

We are looking for an experienced finance professional to join a healthcare group consisting of ten operating companies and one holding company. You will play a key role in further professionalising the finance function and bringing a significant part of the financial activities in-house.

This is an independent and responsible position in which you will work directly with the board, shareholders, management of the individual operating companies and the external accountant.

What will you do?

As Finance Manager / Financial Controller, you will take internal ownership of the quality and further development of the finance function. You will ensure that management has access to reliable figures and clear financial insights every month.

An important part of your role will be to professionalise the monthly closing process. You will prepare reliable monthly financial results for each operating company and the holding company and produce consolidated reporting for the group. The aim is to complete the monthly close within approximately ten working days.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Reviewing and reconciling balance-sheet accounts;
  • Analysing actual performance against budgets and prior periods;
  • Investigating and explaining material variances;
  • Developing clear dashboards and KPIs for the board;
  • Monitoring revenue, staffing costs and profitability by location;
  • Coordinating and reviewing the day-to-day bookkeeping process;
  • Managing and reconciling intercompany transactions and balances;
  • Preparing accruals, provisions, depreciation and other closing entries;
  • Establishing consistent financial processes and a standardised chart of accounts across all entities;
  • Coordinating annual budgets and rolling cash-flow forecasts;
  • Identifying financial risks and liquidity requirements at an early stage;
  • Preparing complete and well-documented year-end files.

Payroll administration

Another important part of the role is bringing payroll administration further in-house. You will be responsible for ensuring a reliable payroll process, including monthly changes, new starters, departures, sickness, variable hours, bonuses and expense allowances.

You will prepare payroll tax filings, reconcile payroll journals with the financial accounts and act as the first point of contact for employees with payroll-related questions.

Where specialist employment-tax or legal expertise is required, you will recognise when external advice should be sought.

Working with the external accountant

The objective is not to bring every specialist activity in-house. The external accountant will continue to handle areas where specialist expertise or an independent professional opinion is appropriate, including statutory annual accounts, corporate income tax and complex tax matters.

Your role is to ensure that the internal finance function is organised to such a high standard that the external accountant receives complete, reliable and well-prepared information.

This will give the organisation greater financial control and insight while also enabling better management of external accountancy costs.

Who are we looking for?

We are not looking for a corporate-style Finance Director who primarily manages from a distance, nor are we looking for someone whose experience is limited to day-to-day bookkeeping.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Finance Manager or Financial Controller who enjoys combining financial control, reporting, payroll and process improvement.

Ideally, you have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics or comparable practical expertise;
  • At least five years of relevant finance experience in a multi-entity SME environment;
  • Experience independently preparing and explaining monthly management accounts;
  • Strong knowledge of balance-sheet reconciliations and intercompany accounting;
  • Practical knowledge of Dutch VAT, payroll taxes and payroll administration;
  • Experience with systems such as Exact Online, AFAS, Nmbrs or Loket.nl;
  • Advanced Excel skills.

An SPD, AA, RC or comparable qualification is an advantage, but proven practical experience in a multi-company environment is more important than your formal title.

What kind of person are you?

You are accurate and methodical while remaining commercially aware and able to understand the business behind the numbers.

You can explain financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues and are comfortable asking critical questions. When necessary, you are able to constructively challenge management, the board and the external accountant.

You also enjoy not only running financial processes, but improving and documenting them.

What do we offer?

This is a broad and independent position for 24 hours per week, offering significant scope to shape and professionalise the organisation's finance function.

The indicative salary is:

€3,200 to €3,600 gross per month based on a 24-hour working week, depending on knowledge and experience.

You will have a role with direct influence on the quality of financial information, internal financial control and the further professionalisation of the organisation.

Your first challenge

During your first months, your focus will be on gaining control and visibility across the financial administration of all eleven entities, improving the monthly closing and reporting processes, and further bringing payroll administration in-house.

The overall objective is clear: reliable monthly figures, stronger financial control and greater financial expertise within the organisation.

Does this combination of financial control, reporting, payroll administration and process improvement appeal to you? We would be pleased to hear from you.
