About the Role

SEW-EURODRIVE is seeking an AI Engineer – Smart Factories (w/m/d) to support the digital evolution of its production sites in Germany.

In this role, you will develop and operationalize AI and data-driven solutions for industrial production and decision-making. You will help establish efficient AI implementation and operating models, apply Explainable AI approaches, evaluate emerging technologies, and scale successful solutions across multiple locations.

The position requires strong technical expertise combined with the ability to translate complex AI, data, and technology concepts into practical industrial solutions .

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the digital transformation of German production sites toward AI-supported Smart Factories .
• Establish efficient AI implementation and operating models covering solution development, stable operations, and continuous improvement.
• Develop and apply Explainable AI (XAI) approaches to make AI-supported decisions transparent, understandable, and actionable.
• Monitor emerging AI technologies, methodologies, and industry trends.
• Critically evaluate new technologies and identify approaches suitable for industrial applications.
• Transfer promising AI concepts into practical, scalable solutions for production environments.
• Develop and operationalize Data Engineering and Machine Learning solutions .
• Continuously improve AI and data solutions after deployment.
• Evaluate event-driven and agent-based AI approaches for their industrial applicability, benefits, limitations, and maturity.
• Collaborate closely with national and international teams.
• Support knowledge transfer and cross-site collaboration.
• Contribute to the harmonization and sustainable scaling of successful AI solutions across production locations.
• Translate complex AI, data, and technology topics into clear and effective communication for different stakeholders and cultural environments.

Basic Qualifications

• Completed degree in Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business Informatics , or a comparable qualification.
• Strong understanding of industrial production and operational processes .
• Ability to translate industrial processes into data- and AI-driven solutions for optimization and decision-making.
• Practical experience in Data Engineering and Machine Learning .
• Experience taking data and AI solutions from development into stable operational environments.
• Ability to continuously improve and maintain deployed AI solutions.
• Strong communication and translation skills for explaining complex technical topics to different audiences.
• Very good German language skills at C1 level .
• Good written and spoken English skills .

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with event-driven AI approaches.
• Experience with agent-based AI approaches.
• Ability to critically assess the benefits, limitations, and maturity of emerging AI technologies in industrial environments.
• Experience implementing AI solutions in manufacturing or other industrial settings.
• Experience with scalable AI deployment and operational models.
• Experience working with international and cross-functional teams.
• Strong interest in emerging AI technologies, industrial digitalization, and Smart Factory concepts.
