Job description

ID Quantique (IDQ) as part of IONQ, is a global leader in quantum-safe communications and quantum detection systems. We provide solutions to protect governments, telecommunication infrastructures, and banking & financial institutions from the “harvest-now, decrypt-later” threat, delivering both terrestrial and space-based quantum-safe networks in live operation globally. Our Quantum Detection Systems push the limits of single-photon detection, powering breakthroughs in quantum communication, sensing, computing, and ultra-sensitive imaging in partnership with top researchers and tech innovators worldwide.

What to expect

We are looking for a Senior Nanofabrication Engineer to join its SNSPD team in Geneva. The successful candidate will be primarily focused on the fabrication of SNSPD devices and the continuous improvement of nanofabrication processes in a cleanroom environment. This is a hands-on role centered on executing process flows and fabricating R&D wafers that serve as prototypes for device development. These wafers are critical inputs for the testing team and directly support the delivery of the technology roadmap, with the objective of transferring validated processes toward production.

What you'll be doing

You will be responsible for executing and optimising nanofabrication process flows to produce SNSPD wafers and prototype devices for R&D activities, including optical and e-beam lithography, thin-film deposition, and etching processes. In this role, you will fabricate and deliver wafers to the testing team to enable device characterisation and validation, contributing directly to the development of prototypes that will underpin future production processes. You will also monitor process stability, identify opportunities to improve yield and reproducibility, and support the qualification of new materials, tools, and process steps through structured experimental work and data analysis.

Working closely with R&D and test teams, you will ensure fabrication outputs are aligned with device and roadmap requirements, while contributing to the continuous optimisation and documentation of fabrication procedures.

  • Execute nanofabrication processes and deliver high-quality wafers to support device testing, validation, and prototype development

  • Drive process improvement, data analysis, and cross-team collaboration to enhance yield, reproducibility, and fabrication standards=

What you'll bring

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, and at least five years of hands-on cleanroom experience in nanofabrication. Familiarity with thin-film deposition and characterisation techniques such as sputtering, evaporation, SEM, and AFM is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in experimental work and a process-oriented approach to problem solving.

You will be rigorous, reliable, and detail-oriented, with a practical mindset and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment. Strong communication skills are essential, with fluency in English required and French considered an advantage.

  • Solid academic background and extensive cleanroom experience, with added value from thin-film deposition and characterisation expertise

  • Detail-oriented and adaptable team player, capable of working independently while thriving in a dynamic R&D setting

You'll be a great fit with

With over eight years of hands-on cleanroom experience in nanofabrication, you bring a strong practical understanding of advanced processes, complemented by experience working across a range of nanofabrication facilities and environments.
