Job description
Project Logistics Officer (Construction)
Job Purpose:
The Logistics Officer will execute, coordinate, and monitor the delivery of construction materials, equipment, and plant machinery to various project sites. The role ensures that all site deliveries arrive on time, within budget, and in strict compliance with safety regulations and site access limitations, preventing any downtime in construction progress.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Delivery Coordination: Schedule and dispatch daily deliveries of construction materials (e.g., steel, cement, MEP components, fit-out materials) to project sites based on the site construction schedule and material requests (MRs).
Heavy Equipment & Machinery Movement: Coordinate the mobilization and demobilization of heavy machinery, tower cranes, and site equipment between yards and active construction sites.
Customs & Specialized Cargo: Process documentation and clear specialized construction materials or heavy equipment through customs, ensuring compliance with local import regulations and tracking specialized transport permits.
Site Access & Safety Compliance: Coordinate with Site Managers and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) teams to ensure delivery vehicles meet site safety criteria, and that offloading zones and specialized equipment (like forklifts or cranes) are ready for offloading.
Material Tracking & Discrepancies: Monitor inbound shipments and flag potential delays that could impact project timelines. Inspect delivered materials alongside the site storekeeper to log damages, shortages, or non-compliance with the purchase order (PO).
Supplier & Transporter Coordination: Liaison with local transport vendors, heavy haulage providers, and freight forwarders. Verify transporter invoices against site delivery notes (DNs) and agreed rates before routing to finance.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Civil/Industrial Engineering, or Business Administration.
Experience: 5 to 8 years of dedicated logistics experience strictly within the Construction, Contracting, or Fit-out industry.
Local Knowledge: Solid understanding of Saudi regulations regarding heavy vehicle movement restrictions, municipality permits, and platforms like FASAH and SABER.
Skills & Competencies:
Construction Logistics Savvy: Deep understanding of the handling requirements for diverse construction materials and heavy equipment.
ERP & Technical Literacy: Proficiency in construction-focused ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or Candy/RIB) and advanced MS Excel.
Stress & Crisis Management: Ability to thrive under pressure, handle sudden site delays, truck breakdowns, or changing project priorities on the fly.
Communication & Negotiation: Strong communication skills in English and Arabic to coordinate effectively with project managers, site storekeepers, and external truck drivers.
HSE Awareness: Basic knowledge of construction site safety regulations regarding material lifting and offloading protocols.
