YOUR IMPACT
The Principal Data Center Engineer is a senior-level technical leader responsible for the design, architecture, optimization, and operation of enterprise-scale data center infrastructure. This role drives innovation, standards, and best practices across data center environments, ensuring high availability, scalability, efficiency, and security. The Principal Engineer partners with cross-functional teams, influences strategic direction, and mentors engineering teams.
What The Role Offers
- Define and lead overall data center infrastructure strategy across compute, storage, network, and facilities
- Architect scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient solutions across on-prem, colocation, and hybrid/cloud environments
- Establish and govern engineering standards, reference architectures, and design patterns
- Lead design and deployment of large-scale data center environments with detailed engineering documentation
- Own capacity planning and forecasting for infrastructure, including power, cooling, and space
- Manage infrastructure lifecycle, SLAs/KPIs, reliability frameworks, and operational optimization (performance, energy efficiency, automation)
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and act as a trusted technical advisor to leadership and stakeholders
What You Need To Succeed
- Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years’ experience in data center engineering, infrastructure architecture, or similar roles
- Strong expertise in data center infrastructure (power, cooling, racks, cabling) and core IT systems (compute, storage, networking, virtualization, cloud)
- Solid understanding of high-availability architectures, disaster recovery, and large-scale enterprise or hyperscale environments
- Proven experience managing colocation providers, vendors, and delivering complex infrastructure projects
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; familiarity with DCIM tools, observability platforms, and sustainability/energy optimization
- Knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure, GPU or HPC systems is a plus as well as an electrical certification
- Very good English and Dutch skills are required.
