Job description
As Regional Indirect Tax Manager, you will be part of the Global Tax team and be the go-to indirect tax leader focusing on Growth & Emerging Markets (GEM, including Latin America, Eurasia, Middle East Africa and APAC), with a clear mandate to shape outcomes and make an impact. You will combine deep technical expertise with commercial insight, playing a hands-on role in driving high-quality indirect tax results rather than acting purely in an advisory capacity. Reporting to the Global Indirect Tax & Trade Director (North America based), you will exercise independent judgement over material regional risks, lead senior stakeholder engagement, and ensure indirect tax is proactively embedded in every significant business decision in the GEM segment.
Specifically, you will:
-
Serve as the trusted advisor to and copilot of Supply Chain, Operations, Commercial, Finance, and Legal leadership, proactively assessing indirect tax implications of pricing models, supply-chain footprints, cross-border flows, and restructuring initiatives in the GEM segment.
-
Monitor and analyse the evolving indirect tax landscape in the GEM segment — including e-invoicing mandates, e-reporting where appropriate — and translate developments into clear impact assessments and actions for CFO and Audit Committee audiences.
-
Lead and sponsor indirect tax requirements in ERP and digital transformation programmes, including S/4HANA migration and e-invoicing implementation across the GEM footprint.
-
Own end-to-end indirect tax outcomes for GEM — VAT/GST, excise duties, and other indirect taxes — ensuring consistent application of global policy across all European jurisdictions.
-
Provide functional oversight of GBS teams delivering indirect tax compliance for GEM: define escalation thresholds, quality standards, and KPIs; drive standardisation, automation, and root-cause issue elimination.
-
Act as the senior escalation point for complex or judgement-based indirect tax matters arising from the Global Business Services model or the business.
-
Own the indirect tax risk register for the GEM segment; lead tax audits, investigations, and disputes, ensuring defensible documentation and effective internal controls — including SOX-relevant controls.
-
Balance compliance certainty with cash-flow efficiency and value protection — ensuring the GEM indirect tax function is a genuine business enabler.
-
Master's degree in Tax Law, Fiscal Economics, or equivalent; LL.M. or advanced qualification in international taxation strongly preferred.
-
Minimum 10 years of relevant indirect tax experience, in a global or regional role at a multinational corporation and/or Big Four firm.
-
Deep and broad expertise in VAT/GST, excise duties, customs, and other indirect taxes — across multiple jurisdictions.
-
Excellent knowledge of SAP/S4 Hana and eager to learn more about and work with technology and AI in the broader sense; hands-on experience with digital reporting and e-invoicing solutions is a strong asset.
-
Senior stakeholder influence: you engage credibly with senior-level audiences and translate technical complexity into clear, commercially framed recommendations.
-
Ownership & accountability: you take full responsibility for regional outcomes and operate effectively without close supervision.
-
Analytical rigour: you work through intricate, multi-jurisdictional indirect tax issues with precision and sound commercial judgement.
-
Transformation mindset: you are energised by digital reporting change and ERP transformation, acting as a sponsor rather than a passenger.
-
GBS partnership: you know how to design effective oversight of shared service delivery — setting standards, KPIs, and escalation frameworks.
-
Clear, authoritative communication — you make the complex accessible and act decisively when it matters.
