The Singapore Population Health Studies (SPHS) is a population-based health research initiative at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. SPHS aims to investigate the interactions between lifestyle, physiological, genetic and other omics biomarkers and their impact on health and longevity. In addition, SPHS will serve as a platform to monitor risk factors in the population and gain insight into determinants of health-related behaviours. For this purpose, SPHS includes over 50,000 adult Singaporeans and long-term residents from three major ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay, and Indian), for a better understanding of disease aetiology in urban Asian settings, and the development of improved preventive and therapeutic measures for Singapore and other Asian populations.
JOB PURPOSE
This role is vital to the health assessment operations of the cohort studies that contribute to a Singapore population biobank.
Duties & Responsibilities

Participate in operational planning and the development and documentation of Work Instructions (WI) and SOPs for the data collection protocol.

Source and coordinate with vendors for the procurement and supply of services or goods required for health screening operations.

Perform health screening procedures according to WIs and SOPs. Examples of procedures: anthropometric measurements, blood pressure measurement, retinal imaging, ECG, visual acuity test, hand grip strength measurement, carotid ultrasound and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).

Ensure participant safety and privacy through adherence to establish guidelines and work practices.

Participate in or conduct periodic technical re-assessments to ensure standardization and consistency in data collection and image acquisition.

Implement new procedures for future research projects.

Opportunity to take on the role of a supervisor to actively train, assess and supervise trainees involved in research operations.
Qualifications

Degree in Life Sciences / Biomedical Sciences or relevant fields, from recognised institutions

42-hour work week: Mon, Tue, Thu and Fri (7:45am to 5:30pm) and Wed (9am to 5pm).

Work location: NUS, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health

Ability to interact with people of various age groups and backgrounds.

Fluency in spoken Mandarin/Chinese Dialects/Malay/Tamil will be an advantage, to communicate with participants who are only able to converse in these languages.

Phlebotomy skill would be an advantage.

Attention to detail.

Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.
