Job Description

The Ship Application Specialist is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and security of IT systems across the BWEK fleet vessels.

This role ensures that all vessel IT incidents are managed effectively, that infrastructure is maintained and standardized, and that cybersecurity and operational risks are proactively controlled.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Ownership

• Maintain full ownership of onboard IT systems during vessel visits, ensuring all systems are functioning optimally.
• Perform proactive IT health checks on every vessel visit, regardless of the primary purpose of travel.
• Ensure all identified IT issues are addressed prior to departure from the vessel wherever feasible.
• Independently troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with minimal reliance on external support.

Remote & Onboard Support

• Deliver support remotely where possible through secure system access or by guiding vessel crew via email or telephone.
• Escalate unresolved issues (e.g., due to time constraints or lack of spare parts) to Vessel Managers for prioritization and follow-up.

Communication Systems Responsibility

• Responsible for ship-to-shore IT communication systems up to the interface with onshore infrastructure.
• Ensure reliability of:
  • Satellite communication systems (VSAT/FX)
  • Ship email systems, including ShipNet up to the onshore mailbox level

Risk & Issue Management

• Maintain a structured and up-to-date log of:
  • IT issues
  • Identified risks
  • Remediation actions
  • Submit post-visit reports, including logs and observations, to the Senior Manager, IT after each vessel visit

Documentation & Knowledge Management

• Develop and maintain documentation including:
  • User guides
  • Standard procedures
  • Change logs, risk registers, and issue logs

Take full responsibility for documentation deliverables when assigned.
