Job description
Prototyping & Test Engineer
One2grow is exclusively recruiting a Prototyping & Test Engineer for an innovative R&D company based in Utrecht.
Our client is developing a completely new technology platform and is currently building and testing working prototypes in its laboratory. As the company operates in a confidential technology environment, further details about the organisation and technology will be shared during the application process.
The role
As a Prototyping & Test Engineer, you will work closely with electrical, firmware and mechanical engineers. You will help build prototypes, develop test equipment, execute experiments and translate test results into practical engineering improvements.
This is a highly hands-on position. You will combine electronics, mechanical prototyping, measurement equipment and basic programming to understand how new technology performs in the real world.
What you will do
- Design, build and improve experimental test setups
- Assemble and modify prototypes, mechanical components and electronic systems
- Plan and execute performance, endurance and validation tests
- Work safely with high-voltage systems
- Configure sensors, data-acquisition systems and measurement equipment
- Write basic scripts and test software for automated measurements and data collection
- Analyse test data and investigate unexpected results
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical and software-related issues
- Support rapid prototype iterations using 3D printing and workshop tools
- Translate findings into practical recommendations for the engineering team
- Take ownership of experiments from initial idea through execution, analysis and reporting
What we are looking for
- MBO, HBO or university-level technical education in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or a related field
- Practical understanding of electronics, sensors and measurement systems
- Basic programming or scripting skills, for example Python, Arduino/C++ or similar
- Experience building, assembling or repairing prototypes or test equipment
- Interest in high-voltage engineering
- Familiarity with 3D printing, basic CAD or workshop processes
- A structured and safety-conscious approach to testing
- Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently within a small engineering team
- Professional working proficiency in English
- Availability to work full-time on-site in Utrecht
Nice to have
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly valuable:
- High-voltage electronics and electrical safety
- Embedded systems, microcontrollers or firmware
- Python-based test automation
- Oscilloscopes and data-acquisition systems
- Performance, endurance or environmental testing
- Rapid prototyping, 3D printing, laser cutting or CNC machining
- SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar CAD software
- Physics, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, electrostatics or related fields
- Startup, research laboratory or product-development environments
You do not need to meet every requirement. Practical engineering ability, technical curiosity and the willingness to learn are equally important.
Why join?
You will have the opportunity to work on a new technology platform at an early stage of development, where your experiments have a direct impact on the next engineering iteration.
You will work with real hardware, collaborate directly with a small multidisciplinary engineering team and gain exposure to electronics, high voltage, firmware, mechanics and test engineering.
There is significant freedom to propose ideas, improve testing methods and take ownership of your work.
