The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. Your tasks

  • Design and develop advanced control algorithms for multi-bunch operation in travelling-wave RF structures, with a focus on 4-bunch schemes for FCC-ee and experimental validation using 2-bunch configurations at SwissFEL
  • Perform modeling and simulation of RF systems and beam acceleration to support control strategy development and operational studies
  • Create automation tools to efficiently configure, optimize, and stabilize multi-bunch beam operation
  • Contribute to the systems engineering of LLRF systems, translating user requirements into integrated hardware, firmware, and software architecture
  • Support and gain hands-on experience in the operation and optimization of the SwissFEL LLRF system

Your profile

  • MSc or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Strong background in feedback control theory and automation of complex systems
  • Foundational knowledge of beam dynamics in linear accelerators
  • Experience with LLRF systems or EPICS-based control systems is an asset
  • Proficiency in Linux environments and programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB); experience with FPGA firmware is a plus
  • Familiarity with system and/or software engineering practices is advantageous
  • Demonstrated problem-solving mindset, hands-on approach, and excellent command of English
