Power Electronics Medium Voltage Lab Manager (m/f/d)

As the Medium Voltage (MV) Laboratory Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations, development and safety of our medium voltage research and development laboratories. You will play a central role in supporting experimental research activities by establishing and operating medium voltage test setups, designing and building R&D rigs for testing power electronic converters, maintaining laboratory infrastructure, ensuring compliance with medium voltage safety standards and managing inventory and procurement.

This role involves working with high-power, medium voltage equipment and experimental converter test setups, so mandatory hands-on experience with medium voltage systems is required.

Your Responsibilities

• Take ownership of laboratory operations to ensure they function smoothly, safely and efficiently on a day-to-day basis
• Design mechanical and electrical components using CAD tools, and support the development, assembly and commissioning of R&D test setups
• Establish, commission and operate medium voltage (MV) test setups for testing and characterising power electronic converters and related equipment
• Plan and execute converter test campaigns, including test procedures, instrumentation, measurements and data acquisition
• Support researchers and engineers in building, modifying, maintaining and troubleshooting experimental test rigs and laboratory equipment
• Develop, implement and enforce laboratory safety procedures with a particular focus on medium voltage and electrical safety. Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
• Manage laboratory inventory, procurement activities, supplier relationships and budgets for laboratory equipment and materials
• Maintain technical documentation, safety protocols and laboratory procedures while providing training to staff and students on equipment usage and best practices
• Work closely with engineers, researchers and technical staff to support ongoing R&D projects

Your Qualifications & Skills

• Degree or technical qualification in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field
• Several years' experience working in an engineering, testing or R&D laboratory environment
• Hands-on experience with electrical systems and laboratory equipment, as well as the design, construction, commissioning and testing of electrical or electromechanical setups
• Proven experience with medium voltage systems (ideally 10 kV+) and operating MV test facilities
• Experience of testing power electronic converters, including measurement, instrumentation and data acquisition systems
• Familiarity with relevant medium voltage (MV) and power electronics standards and regulations (e.g. EN 50110, IEC 61936, IEC 62477, IEC 61010, IEC 60071)
• Strong understanding of laboratory and electrical safety, arc-flash protection, and risk management
• Experience in inventory management, procurement and supplier coordination
• Proficient in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA or equivalent
• Strong troubleshooting, organisational, and documentation skills, and the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Excellent communication skills in English; German is a plus
